Can anyone explain how the bonus is paid for visiting and playing? Some shops give me 30 coins, some give 20 coins and a paw, some only give 2 paws. There's no option to decline.

There is no set pattern on these bonuses when visiting neighbors. You will randomly get coins, paws etc each time you visit a neighbor.
