How come we can't earn gems? The reason why I ask is because
I don't get paid till Friday and my mom removed her cc from our iTunes account. Also what happens when I don't complete a quest within a certain time frame?

You do earn gems. From mastering at levels 2 and 4. You can always buy an itunes or google play card from the store. If you dont complete a goal in time, you may get a popup asking if you want to pay gems to finish it. Otherwise it expires and is gone pecan!

Just use all appliances on one recipe at a time. Master all the ones with the fastest cook times first & you'll earn gems at a decent pace.
