Energy drops when collecting chilli?

Last night I collected from the obelisk/stone thing with the strange runes on it and got a quest that asked for 50 glimmer dust..... Which I completed. Today I collected 20 Red Pepper/Chilli and ..... A few energy bolts came up as well..... ? Is this a new feature? Or a glitch? Or have I been playing for months and just missed a quest from ages ago? Your feedback is appreciated.
