Using building material already in inventory

I have lots of building material in my inventory, buy I'm unable to figure out how to use it. Why do I have to request stuff I already have?

Before using the materials you have to place the constructible building/decoration. You will only have to request items if you don't have enough of materials required to build it.

Anytime to are building something it will account and show you what you have and how much of each you need. You most probably have items in your inventory that are not needed for that particular constructible decoration.
