Hi, everyone! Spring is coming and we're excited to return to warm weather, seeing the flowers blossom, and watching bunnies and baby ducks frolic!

Spring is a time for new things! We want to know what items you would like to see in your favorite TeamLava (https://www.facebook.com/teamlava) games. Send us your concept art and we'll talk to each game team to see if they can create an item based on the best player submissions! The development process does take some time to complete, but we will aim for a turnaround of about two to three months.

Concepts will be selected based on their creativity and quality, so be sure to put your best foot forward!

Prizes:

If your concept is selected as a winner you will receive 100 Gems or Gold for the game of your choice (500 Gems or Gold if it's a newer game, e.g. Bubble Mania, Dragon Story, Castle Story, etc.)
Even if you don't win the contest, if the concept is used to create an item, you will receive the item when it is released.

Wow, that's pretty impressive!

To the person asking about how you did that (I couldn't find the original post) it usually involves the Pen tool in Photoshop. You can use it to make shapes and lines, like the shapes used to shade things like that.

Since I just part-time work on these entries, I don't think I have enough time to computerize both of them before the deadline. Also for this one, I don't think it is going to win since it is really quite a summer theme. But I really want to share a new idea to display jewelry rather to put them in a black box. Displaying just one item make it more eye-catching, I think. Another question/comment for TL staff, if rack/tables are going to be used by the game team in future, can the players receive more than 1 of them? It is very strange to just have 1 rack/table and we don't know if it is gem or coin item.

Hello,
My name is Josje and i come from the Netherlands,
I have absolutely no idea how to put the pictures in big on this message.
I've chosen for the Rainbow dragon because i thought it belongs to spring. It's the period of the year where rain and sun alternate. I'll try to make a nice story about each dragon but I think it will go with a lot of grammar mistakes. I'm sorry for that but I'm trying really hard to write the best I can.

Baby:
When a baby Rainbow dragon is born, you'll see a giant rainbow from the nest to the sky. In the past people believed when they followed the rainbow, they would find a pot of gold. The baby dragon protects itself by having great camouflage, while dragons see in grey shades they won't notice a baby Rainbow Dragon is flying above them.

Juvenile:
The Juvenile is a very perky dragon. If he could he would play and go on adventures all day. You can see their mature skin is coming through. They're losing their camouflage and are getting their beautifull rainbow-like skin. First the dark colors are coming through and after that they're getting lighter shades like yellow and green.

Epic:
If you see this dragon, your eyes will pop out of his majesty. All those bright colors are shining in the sunlight. With is unimaginable strength he's able to move skys****ers. And maybe once, if you're very lucky, you'll maybe see him creating a rainbow with his scale coat.

Here's my entry : Nature Blessing Dragon

Baby : According to legend, when the fist nature blessing dragon was hatched, the elder diamond dragon flew by, picked the baby dragon up and flew to a sacred tree where all the mother-less dragon where. The baby grew up under the diamond dragon's tree and protective hand.

Juvenile : When the nature blessing dragon becomes able to fly, a trail of gold wisps are left behind the dragon's path and is used to for good luck. All the dragons from nearby islands can see the flamboyant display of brilliant gold better than the second sun that hovers just above them. According to legend, if dragons were able to get close enough to the gold trail, the gold would touch the heart of the dragon and give forever peace and luck.

Adult : [Name] is now ready to care for mother-less dragons. Any dragon that is lucky enough is be under [Name]'s aid is probably going to be a future leader and optimist. The joy of which the nature blessing dragon brings is so pervasive that if a dragon isn't under a nature blessing dragon's aid, the dragon would feel like do back flips and spreading more joy to those around the dragon.

Epic : Nature blessing dragons are one of the few dragons that have arms with fingers. This helps with carrying dragon eggs, and keeping cold dragons warm ( If fire dragons decide not to help that is ). The ostentatious wings of the epic nature blessing dragon have more use than looks. When baby dragons get scared at night, the nature blessing dragon huddles the dragon inside it's wings to keep shelter and warmth. [Name] is happy to care for any dragon that is in distress or need of care.

Extra : This drawing / description took me about 2 hours lol. If see a little to the right, im working on another dragon. Ill give you a sneak preview : its called the Migration Dragon.

Spring contest

I introduce you the one and only "bunny dragon" only available during spring time
Color base: red and purple


Egg: the egg bunny dragons are so cute. It only hatch during the spring time where the weather bit rainy, windy and not to hot of the sunshine. When it's almost April the mother of bunny will find a hole to hatch them all.

Baby: when they are baby they are so playful with others baby bunny. They jump, jump, and jump until they find garden of carrots. And when they do, they won't stop digging until their baskets are full of carrots. Their teeth are so white so it glow at night. During night time, they are good sleeper.

Epic: bunny dragon are like to hunt. In the epic form they are hunting color eggs. Especially, during the flowers bloom with the weather is nice outside the hole, they will arrange together with others bunny to race and to hunt as many as they can. They will fill up their basket with color eggs.

Hope this isn't too late, but here is my submission for Dragon Story! It's a rare/super rare Red/Green/Purple hybrid, the Golem Dragon!

Baby Description
Golem Dragons devote their lives to protecting the realm from intruders. Although it's only a baby, is skin is very tough and rocky. However, it doesn't actually know what to protect yet.

Juvenile Description
Juvenile Golem Dragons believe they exist to guard the island. The shield-like rocks on their hands are surprisingly strong. Their wings are made of moss growths which are very tough.

Epic Description
Islands Epic Golem Dragons have protected have never been trespassed on. No explosion, lava or attack can penetrate its rocky skin. It's flames can melt anything, and turn lava into gas.

Entering this contest and try to design something make me realize it's not easy to create something unique, different and make everybody happy especially in a short time :p . I now know how hard it is for the design team to present new idea every week and then face critisicms from players....he he he. But still, cool job you've got there guys

Because I've gotten tons of messages: I used mainly the program Paint Tool SAI (English translation) with a Wacom Bamboo tablet for my Equinox dragon (http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/139/dragonstory.png) concept and Photoshop CS6 to do some lighting effects, text and resizing. I have to say this, the program you use will not influence the quality of your art, unless you are using MS paint or word or programs not designed for drawing. It took me roughly 8 hours to do the artwork, the process involved:
- Scanning my pencil sketch into the computer
- Preliminary lining my dragons in SAI
- Inking and creating the final lineart layer
- Adding base colours
- Shading

My two current art inspirations, wavewhisper and numina - namine on deviantart, use two different art programs (one uses photoshop and another uses SAI), but you will immediately notice that the quality and style of their art is NOT IMPACTED by the art program that they've chosen to use. Pick a program and stick with it. Don't learn half a program and switch. This achieves nothing. Keep practising your techniques. I've been drawing dragons for thirteen years and in that time, my art has improved dramatically. The technique of shading digitally is practically identical to traditional artwork, remember to look for the light source and stick to it. I am by no means an expert at art, but you don't need to be an expert at art to produce some stunning work. If you are struggling to make dragons look like dragons, study Team Lava's dragons very closely and note what sort of lines are used for the eyes, ears, body, head and etc. If you don't own a tablet, I feel really sorry for you because having a tablet has made my life so much easier and improves artwork about 10x. You can still line, however, if you use the Pen Tool in photoshop if you don't have a tablet. You can still colour in Team Lava's style without a tablet if you 'flat cell' shade.

I must say, this has been great fun and makes me want to keep drawing. Thanks idestined for your advice! While I don't think I'll be getting a tablet soon, I think I could manage to use some program other than MS paint for next time. Got a sudden idea when I viewed the contest and couldn't wait to get drawing! Next time I'll sit myself down for a little planning if I can lol!

Just would like to supplement idestined's comment. If you cannot draw with computer programs efficiently like me, just use the traditional drawing with pencil and paper. I took part in many similar design contests in the past and spent a few nights in outlining, coloring and shading but did not win. This time I knew I might not finish the artworks using computer so I submitted the draft. At last I still could not finish my concept with computer within 2 nights but surprisingly it wins this time. So next time do the way that you are familiar with.
