Spent gold for more shots and game froze

This is the second time this has happened to me. I spent 22 gold to issue me 5 more shots and the game is frozen. I can still pause and unpause the game but cannot move any gems. Last time I had to close the game down completely and start the level over and lost the gold. The same thing has happened again but I'd like to be compensated in future. I'm not in the habit of throwing money away :(
