Hello, I'm new to this game and I was given a goldfish by a neighbor. How do I get it out of storage?

You don't. It's used as a building material in one or more of the pieces of furniture. I think it's used in the aqua cabinet and maybe something else. If you accept it, you can save it for when you build something that needs it.
