Knowledge Shard?

I don't recall seeing it drop, but I seem to have a knowledge shard in my inventory...from what I've read, there hold be a quest associated with this?

Do I need to be at a certain point in all other quests before it appears, or need to do something to trigger it?

No the act of collecting the shard triggers the quest. If you have a quest that starts with Tabernum Research that's the goal. If you don't have that goal but get 2 water very time you collect from wells/ponds you've already done it.

If you don't have a quest check your magic forge to see if you can craft other items.

It is just luck position of the tabernum doesn't matter. I never have my tablet in its original place.

In a month or so I haven't gotten any shards. It's frustrating but at this point I'm coming close to completing all of the goals so at least I'll still have the shard goals to look forward to. Eventually. Hopefully lol.

Never understood hype about jewels. Always have enough, despite making swords and royal beams/blocks. Even caravan didn't bother me in terms of jewels supply. I am mining a lot for coal so jewels just piling up.

I received my second Shard yesterday. Today already I've received my third! Kool! For me that works out to be 3 shards in 2 weeks. It's going to take me a while to complete the goals for the third shard so I probably wont get the fourth shard for a couple of weeks. Will post back later. :)

You could try turning your device off then on, also delete and reinstall the game. If there is no success there email support@teamlava.com and they can look into your game. You will need to supply your storm 8 ID, name of the game.

I'd suggest emailing support@teamlava.com. Give them your ID, game, gem level and issue so they can look into it for you.

Just keep collecting from the tablet. They're a rare drop. You'll eventually get them.

Same here, then last week after collecting and not receiving again, isaid to hell with it and spent gems to speed up the garden to collect again, and BOOM.....there was my first shard! I was like, he'll yeah, bout time.

A what point will I know if I just have to keep trying, and be patient or if there is a fault with my game and I'll never get any.

I got my first shard at Lvl 25, weeks and weeks after I finished the tablet; when I was busy focusing on something else and basically stopped looking forward to any major surprises.

So I think, you're probably not alone in waiting for a very very very long time. I think they want to catch you when you least expect it :)

I already finished the first and second shard, so I am not stock piled for those shards. I did what u told me to do, and they gave me an answer: "Look in the forum for hints and answers". Yep, that helps alot. It must be a technical issue, so there's nothing I can do about it. And TL didn't help me, so I'm pretty stuck :(

Yes, they all look the same but trigger different stuff :)

2nd: Anatomy. It gives better drops from monsters (I must say I don't feel any difference), chance to get fey crystal from monster (I did get this). It requires bones, rat tails and coins.

3rd: Agriculture. It gives 1/3 chance of getting extra energy when harvesting crops and a chance to get fey grystal from crops. It requires petals and glimmerdust, plus coins. This is, imho, the most useful shard.

4th: Alchemy. It gives the possibility to craft jewels, silver and mithril at the forge. It requires 100,000 coins, 50 jewels and 50 silver (I finished it yesterday, lol!).

Those aren't actually recipes, it is alchemy, you just turn one thing into anther.

Coal to jewel=10 coal, 1 hour

Yep, the only one I have used is the silver to mithril and that was only because I wanted to try it out

It's a chance. I had been playing the game for a long time but never got any knowledge shard until two weeks ago (level 23, almost finished all goals). Then 5 days later I got the second (level 24); then 9 days later I got the third (level 25). I am not very eager for the fourth since it doesn't look very useful except for pure curiosity.

Yay I just got my fourth shard! I had to tap my tablet tabermum three times to collect from it and I just knew it was going to drop the last shard. Made up as been maxed on most things, level 30 and finished all the quests ages ago. Bring on the update I'm ready for anything now.

my alternate account just got the 4th shard today. no plans on making jewels or silver ore because i am usually nearly maxed on both. right now we don't have a use for the mitrhil, so i dunno if i should stock up on it since i only have one magic forge built, and i usually use it to forge swords.
but on my main account i am still waiting on the 2nd shard to drop. i am maxed on troll horns and have lots of troll essence, so what i am really after is the 3rd shard. i love when energy pops up when i am harvesting my crops on my alternate account :)

I reconfirmed, I indeed have two shards. What does one gain from the second shard? Is there any way to check if I have achieved the quest, even tho I never received it?? The first shard was very clear on what needed to be done! I love the game and enjoy spending the NUMEROUS hours, days, weeks, months... Only real concern is I am halfway through level 28 and accomplished most of the goals.... What is next?? More I do hope!

I JUST received my second knowledge shard, and had everything I needed o complete the quest (50k gold, 20 tails, 20 bones) and the quest completed box popped up showing I was to receive 15 gems. The game took my removed the money and supplies from my inventory, but I did not receive the gems.

Any advice? I'd love to claim my reward, as I was saving up my gems for an apple tree. (I've had no luck with the golden apple, and this bottleneck in the game is really starting to wear on me.)

Got my first shard yesterday - after 2 months of waiting... no idea how long it will take for the second one to appear. Looking on the bright side, finally I know why there were not that many complaints on mermaid scale drop rate, after completing the aquifiers quest they appeared more often than once every 20th collect :) So smile and think that there are some that have it worse than you :)

Because I have nothing left to do besides collecting money, redecorating my realm and expanding. I thought I'd feel some satisfaction after completing the last shard, but as it turns out, I don't want it that much. I'm a more active player when there are goals. I feel sad because I consider Castle Story one of the best designed game from TL, and when there are so little things to do, people will get bored and stop playing daily, and then stop playing at all. Half of my neighbour is not active. My usual daily gift exchanging partner has stop playing. We are all waiting for the valentine updates, but how long do you think the excitement would last? My guess is a month, followed by another six month of agony and whining about new update, and by then, the user base would've drop so much that it would deemed unprofitable to develop this franchise anymore.

Castle Story certainly doesn't have the same regular updates as most other TL games, but maybe the Valentine's Day update will be one of several to come? I feel like Castle Story is more complicated than other TL games so maybe development takes longer. The short of it is, don't give up just yet when there's an update right around the corner! Let's see how this one goes before getting too sad. (~_^)

Different situation but I feel the same thing as you do. Everytime I collect from tabernum I always hope the third shard will pop out, but zip ...nothing. I'm interested to know if the people that don't yet have the third shard and are at high levels in the game, do you guys have an energy cap of 40 or 30?
On one of my iPads I have a cap of 30 and received all three shards early up. But on my other iPad where I have a cap of 40 I've not received any shards yet. :( I'm thinking that the energy cap may determine how soon you get the shards. I guess it all ties in with the "game economics" as they call it.

Hi xtcinla11, thanks for the info! You just made me realise something. Maybe it depends on when a person first started playing the game, in other words if you started playing when the first version of the game was released, back before the energy capping and when people had a greater advantage, the shards become rarer.
I guess there are a number of varying factors that determine this.

Would be nice if they increased the chance of getting a shard each time you collect so that months down the road you get one even if you have bad shard luck.

I've finally gotten the third and a few collections later the fourth shard after a long drought. After finishing the fourth shard you can make mithryl but what's it's use now. I've already finished the thurston sword/troll king mission line. Something for the future maybe?

Check your inventory to count how many shards you have. The quests rewards for the shards are: double water for first, better monster drops for second, chance of energy when harvesting crops for third and craft more materials in magic forge for fourth.

It's a 33% chance each harvest. I've had times where 1 crop seems better only to have it be worse on another time. I've had times where I get energy multiple times in a row and others where I don't get any. All within the realm of statistical probability.

The third shard gives a chance of getting energy back when harvesting from crops. If it was me I'd focus on that and do the ampitheatre after as collecting from it just gives coins and xp (you'll get more from some crops and the extra energy will allow you to harvest more). But like I said its just my opinion.

It's weird, I'll also go through a phase where it seems I only need to get finger near an item and the fangbeast or troll come with a vengence. Right now, wheat and cane are readily producing the skunkupine. I hope it turns around for ya!

Fangbeasts like red and orange crops especially hot pepper in my experience. Trolls seem to love cabbages - could be why they smell.

Knowledge shards should seriously be quested for, not random drops. A long complicated quest with the surety of getting one by the end would be nice.
I can't tell you how annoyed i get when people make a comment about needing mermaid scales or fur, etc., and the reply from others is "when you get the #1234 knowledge shard that will be easier". Really? that's your helpful advice....get an item that drops randomly and we have no control over getting?! Well i will just go get that knowledge shard then.....oh wait, it is a completely RANDOM CHANCE to even get one.
Some people get a bunch right away. Others who have had their tablets for months don't even have one. I have had my tablet since nov2012 at the latest, might have been October, and i have two shards. I would love to see it made into a quest, even if it is a long drawn out one that might not update til many others are finished, or certain levels are reached, etc.

I can forge no magic scissors. :( There REALLY needs to be another option for buying, creating or obtaining mithril!

I refuse to purchase gems until they make an "are you sure" button when spending gems. I have unintentionally lost hundreds of them by cat paw brushes, grandchild grabs and drop collection double taps. I'm not spending money on something I cannot protect to be spent in the fashion I wish. I have decided to simply play the game - that is what I am enjoying, anyway. When and if I manage to get a shard or mithril, I will progress. If I lose interest from lack of action, I will delete it. As long as I am still playing, I hope the needed parts will appear.

I didn't get more mermaid scales until I got my 2nd shard, this was the case on both my accounts. I had the second shard for ages on my main account before I got it on my iPad and was getting a good return on mermaid scales on my main account but barely any on my second account, then as soon as I got the 2nd shard on the iPad account the mermaid drops increased, the other day I got 4 just from one pond so I think the second increases mermaid drops as well.

Force close and restart your game to see if it appears. If it doesn't keep an eye on your monster drops. If they seem better or you get a fey crystal from them you've actually done the quest.

Then I got the second shard early morning yesterday and the third shard in the evening. I?m working on these 2 goals but more focus on the third shard because it will give back energy, I haven?t harvested for quite a while because lack of energy :( . Do anyone also try to complete 2 shard goals at once? Is it ok to complete the third shard first?

I?m quite cautious for double goals like this after the double pink fur goals which related and I didn?t know it and loaded them.. Then magic fruit for faerie magic goal and magic fruit trade, I haven?t done magic fruit trade because I have to wait 2 days more to complete faerie magic goal first.

I got my first shard yesterday, after having the tablet for a few months, and I even went through a period where I set my alarm on my phone so I could collect from it the second it was "ready", I rotated it, moved it, and it is still not in its original position when I received the shard yesterday. So, eventually....now to see how long it takes before I get any other shards :D

In fairness, I didn't even know about it til today, so I hadn't been waiting! It was only when I commented on the complete lack of mermaid scales that it was pointed out to me. I thought the tabernacle thing just gave coins!

Yup exactly same for me. I have had it for month and nothing. The mermaid scale drop rate is fast becoming as rare a drop as these shards.

But I got my 3 shards after reaching lvl 29, maybe within a weeks.
One thing I have done consistently is visiting all my neighbor daily, not many just 60+ of them.
Maybe that counts too if TL factors that as a required achievements?

A lot of this game is all about patience and perspective. Get a little of both and things come a lot easier with less stress. Works for driving in the city too. ;)

Getting shards (or any rare drop) is not connected with any other action in the game or with whether you purchase gems.
Rare drops are just rare, you simply must wait for them.

After getting my second shard in April, I finally got my third one this past Thursday and then the fourth on Friday!

I have completed my third shard goal *before* finishing my second shard goal! Amazing!

This is how it happened:
A few days ago I got my second shard.
I started collecting rat's tails but I still don't have enough to complete the second goal.
Just now I got my third shard.
I already had the right items saved up so I completed the third goal immediately.
The second goal is still incomplete with three more rat's tails needed.

I didn't know it was possible to complete the goals out of order!

I'm waiting on my fourth shard.

I had heard all of my neighbors talking about their shards, and I was really confused because I had no idea what the shards were, nor had I gotten any.

Then one collection I got a shard, got excited, finished the quest etc.

The next collection I got my second shard!

Two collections after that one, I got my third!

I thought I would get a fourth sometime soon, but I guess I was just super lucky to get three almost in a row! But it's been probably about 20 collections since my last shard. I hope I get it soon! I need to make magic scissors for Sabina, and only have 1 mithril!

Had the tablet for 3 months before getting first shard. It's now been another 3 months and still waiting on the 2nd shard. rare drops are ****ing me....alicorn horn, burning ember, giant diamond, and shards. I keep rotating and moving my tablet thinking the change of view may help...wish I could just turn it upside down and beat the living shard out of it.

Just keep collecting from the tablet. They're very rare drops but you'll eventually get them.

Thanks for sharing pictures of the scrolls. Having the shards before any scrolls were added means I don't have the scrolls, and never will.

They're pretty, and I wish they would have been added retroactively to the inventory for those who had already found the shards they go with. Being a completist, it makes me a little sad to not have them.

I didn't get them on my iPad game as they weren't available when I started playing the game. I was surprised to get the first scroll when I was playing on my iPhone game. Shame we didn't get them awarded when they released them. Some will have none or a couple, so won't have the complete collection. Not that they do anything or have any use.

Sorry I've since moved it. And it kind of depends on how you expanded so I can't even explain it. If you search for it on the forum it may already be on there. But, I doubt that made the difference, other people have got shards from it being in other positions I believe.

There are a lot of people that took months to get their first one so you could say it's normal. I know mine took ages (certainly felt very long).

There may not be any secret effects. That statement was made because, when the shards first appeared, no one was sure what exactly they would do. The most common effects were noticed right away, but we didn't know if there were other rare effects that we hadn't observed yet. I think all effects are now known and noted. (However, TL may add other effects over time.)

ETA: One theory is that fey crystals are at least one secret effect. They start appearing from crops, animals, and water sources after you get the relevant shards.

i have 4 Knowledge Shards. Is that all there are or can I look forward to the awesome surprise of getting another one and having a substantial advantage from having found one?

I think it would be awesome if a fifth one would allow me to add one extra of each crafting resource. I know we have a limit of two now and there are some of which I would really like to add another. I waited daily to get spell books so I could level up my Wizard Schools and the sight of an extra one in the pile of things coming back from sending my knights out to look for things in dangerous places brought an "Oh yes!". just last week I finally found the 75th one to level up my second school. This was a long time coming, but now I have extra books popping up all over now! i was checking when I leveled up to see if the message I got saying I would need to level up to add another really would work, but the only thing I have seen leveling up give me the option to get more are the crop plots, but lately I have not been getting those either so I guess I have reached the limit. I am rapidly approaching the level up limit of 50 and I don't expect that to change because earlier this year the level was increased to 50 from 30, just as I was approaching level 30. does anyone know if there is a 5th Knowledge Shard, and if so what does it do?
