requests neighbours

Ok, this is probably been asked a thousand times too but i get alot of requests from neighbours from petals, wheat etc.

I can never ask for any of these items i need, how does it work?

A lot of those requests will come when you have specific quests or buildings. The red petals, for example, are to build a conservatory. Minstrels are for one of the caravan quests. When you reach the appropriate point, you'll be able to make requests as well.
