Gems disappearing

It's not easy getting gems & the ones I do have, I want to keep. My gems are disappearing one by one while playing Castle. Is there a reason? I AM NOT USING THEM TO SPEED THINGS, IF YOU'RE WONDERING

I'll post my problem here too since my gems keep disappearing too... I spent 2 gems speeding up a couple of items in the workshops but once I collect my item my game freezes and the item goes back in the workshop like nothing happened but I don't get my gems back ... It wouldn't be such a big problem but this happened multiple times ...

I find gems disappearing, too. It's also way too easy to accidentally use them when you don't want to. There should be a pop up saying something like "do you want to use your gems to speed up this 'whatever'". They are too hard to get to be so say to lose!!!
