getting rare dragons

hi all, im pretty new to the forums.
i have been trying all week to get pumpkin before its gone. i have a whole army of firestorms. ive read that younger air and fire breed rare. i didnt believe it, since i had level 5 and level 6, figured that was young enough. started a new game YESTERDAY on my tablet, my first breeding resulted in pumpkin. both were level 4. so i got mad, hatched new fire and air to level 4, bred, got eagle on first try...
im starting to think maybe low level or epic are the best..?
anyone else have thoughts?

the level doesn't matter at all. it was just luck

It took me a long time to get rares on my phone. It took no time at all to have more rares than commons on my iPad. Think it has more to do with accounts than dragon levels.
