I started to play last week. Is there a how to guide? I have neighbors requesting gifts? How do I request gifts?

You can post on their walls, saying what you would like. If you are building an appliance or decoration that needs parts, this thread is helpful http://forums.teamlava.com/showthread.php?15812-Constructible-Appliance-How-To (it's for Restaurant, but works the same for Bakery).

I'm actually receiving requests for gifts in Main>Messages>News. How do I make a request for a gift so that it will do the same for the person I'm requesting a gift from?

You will need to be constructing, either an appliance or a decoration that requires parts.
