O, T, T, F, F, ?, ?, ?

S, M, T, W, T, ?, ?, ?

D, N, O, S, A, ?, ?, ?

Two men decided to race their horses one day. The man whose horse to cross the finish line last would be the winner. 100 yards before the finish line, they halted realizing the folly of their bet. A wise farmer was standing nearby, and gave them advice upon their asking. Suddenly the men ran full speed to the horses and they charged to the finish line.

What was the farmer's advice?

FarmerTrunte
10-16-12, 03:20 PM
Live or let die...

retro71

thatgirl444

You walk into a house and on the wall you see 3 light switches.
Upstairs there are 3 light bulbs, each controlled by one of the switches, but not necessarily in the same order as positioned.
You can play with the light switches, turn them on or off, but you can only go upstairs once.
When you come back down you have to be able to determine which switch controls which light bulb.
When you are downstairs, you can not see the light bulbs, no matter where you stand.
You are alone, no help allowed..yada yada...

429924
11-04-12, 12:48 PM
two of the switches controls something downstairs, which you can see for yourself.. so the one that doesnt turn on something downstairs is the one that can control ALL THREE(not one) lightbulbs

retro71
11-04-12, 01:51 PM
Leave one light switch alone. Turn the next one on, after a minute or so turn it off. Finally turn the 3rd on & leave it on. Then go upstairs. One of the dark bulbs will still be hot which wil be your 2nd switch. The cold bulb will be the one you left alone.

thatgirl444
11-04-12, 02:03 PM
Very nice try...but no....each light bulb is controlled by one of the switches....just not necessarily in the order they are positioned...3 light bulbs...3 switches

thatgirl444
11-04-12, 02:04 PM
Great job retro...well done :)

GG, I hope you don't mind if I sneak in a riddle even though it's your turn. I read this one today & wanted to share:

You don't want me, but once you have me, you won't want to lose me.

What am I?

pinkster73

Lol.
I have only googled one question ever on this thread, and I felt really bad. Inner voice, "You shouldn't have done that!"

But it was RealFarmer's pacific joke. I had already tossed it over in my mind and decided I wasn't the one to answer, so I searched. Google came up with Farmer's original post, Ha Ha on me!

I really enjoy brain busters :-)

An interesting question though, who doesn't like chocolate? I know of a few who don't, but I think more do. Aw, that's another thread!

One boy went to the carnival, and a man told him that he would attempt to write his exact weight on a piece of paper. If the man wrote it correctly, then the boy would pay him $50 dollars. If the man wrote it incorrectly, then he would pay the boy $50. The boy agreed.

The boy ended up paying 50 dollars. What happened?

Ok. Riddle:

One showoff was going on and on about how long he could hold his breath under water. One smart toddler said that they could go under water longer, without using equipment, air pockets, etc. The showoff said that if this was true, then he would give the toddler 10,000 dollars.

The boy won the money, how did he manage?

A man in a restaurant asked a waiter for a juice glass, a dinner plate, water, a match, and a lemon wedge. The man poured enough water onto the plate to cover it. "If you can get the water on the plate into this glass without touching or moving this plate, I will give you $100," the man said. "You can use the match and lemon to do this." A few minutes later, the waiter walked away with $100 in his pocket. How did the waiter get the water into the glass?

Zetra

He use the match to make the water hot by let's the fire near the plate, then he use the lemon wedge to suck the water up,hangs then wedge above the glass, then squeeze the water out the lemon.

Alternate Way:He use the water he brings to the man and pour it into the glass.

thatgirl444
11-13-12, 09:53 AM
He sucked the lemon juice out of the lemon until the wedge was like a little scooper....stuck the match stick in the wedge (only if it was one of those hard ones) to make a handle and scooped the water from the plate to the glass?

Tempete8
11-13-12, 05:21 PM
Answer: First, the waiter stuck the match into the lemon wedge, so that it would stand straight. Then he lit the match, and put it in the middle of the plate with the lemon. Then, he placed the glass upside-down over the match. As the flame used up the oxygen in the glass, it created a small vacuum, which sucked in the water through the space between the glass and the plate. Thus, the waiter got the water into the glass without touching or moving the plate.
