1. Is doing jobs & collecting the dropped coins/gifts the only way to earn money? I just opened my
game after a couple hours and found nothing in my home, so no additional coins :(
2. What purpose do the people serve in this game - there seems to be 1 "resident", and others going in & out.

sorry, forgot to mention for #1 that you get coins for logging in daily and visiting neighbors (like the other TL games)

Home Story is differnet than other games (Pet Shop, for eg) in that you only
get the dropped gifts if the game is open,

I do not get dropped gifts all the time, but at the bottom of the screen there are jobs you can choose to do to get money. I thought the people in the house were house designers.
