Consumption speed a function of # of seats?

Sorry if this question has been already asked, but is the speed of food consumption capped out a certain pace? if you build a massive restaurant with a TON of seats, can you create faster food consumption? otherwise, is expanding the size of the restaurant only for design purposes and not functionality purposes?

From my experience the number of seats and tables doesn't really affect the consumption of food (assuming that none of your customers are leaving angry). It seems that expanding is just for looks, yet I cant seem to stop working my little fingers off so that I can get that next expansion, lol.
