Can someone explain the significance of the feathers we get when planting seeds?

They're little leaves and they show how well you're doing at 'crop mastery'.

You get bonus stuff for levelling up after you've planted and harvested enough to get to next level (the bar underneath shows progress towards next level)

You get a gem when you get to level 2!

Oh, and a garden gnome for level 4 :)
