missing gems?

I had 14 gems and then next time I looked I was down to 5? I double checked everything I had recently planted and none of them are things that can be bought with gems. Could it be a bug?

I ran out of coins, so it "bought" me 5000 more with 10 of my gems. I was clicking trying to plant so I don't know if something popped up and asked if I wanted to and I just didn't notice it, our if it just did it automatically. Either way sucks :(
