I need to figure out why my pets keep getting sick. I do everything right, I think. It seems like they just want me to buy more gems! Any suggestions on what to do to avoid this

You need to open the babies during a certain time period, if you wait to long they get "sick" and have to use gems to place them now or have to re-do the nursery. You should see when you breed how long it takes.

There is very little wiggle room if you go over the stated breeding time.
