There's a lot of writing here, but please read through so that we can make a brilliant player contest!
OK, hey guys!
I've said I'd do a player-run contest since Mogwai4111 ran the much-treasured Mogwai Downs Derby.
Well, I've finally decided to actually do one.
With the Olympics not long since gone, and the Paralympics around now (sorry to anyone who is fed up with hearing about the Olympics, but if you read on, I hope it'll be worth it!), I decided to base this contest on the wackiest, most eccentric things about my home country, Great Britain. Because we are wacky and eccentric, in our own ways.
But --- shock!!! horror!!! --- this will not be about tea and biscuits (except when it is), but some other things that are slightly more complicated and deep in our culture. It will also involve your fellow forumers, so it's probably a good time to start sweet talking everyone now.
Here's how the contest will work...
We'll start by recruiting for the contest. So long as there are enough people willing to play to fill all the spaces, there will be 12 spaces available to play.
Each day (hopefully, although please note that my Internet access is dodgy at the best of times, let alone when I'm in the Scottish Highlands), I'll ask a question about something vaguely to do with Britain.
You'll have to answer it as quickly and accurately as possible - DO NOT post it in the thread, but PM me (http://forums.teamlava.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1327).
There will also be bonus marks awarded for humour and wit.
To add to the difficulty of some of the questions, I am feeling mean.
Therefore, I shall leave out parts of the hints each day.
One of the players in the game will be given this hint at random.
The only condition is that they have to share it with at least one person correctly (I will be checking!)
They are allowed to give up to three people a false answer of not knowing the hint, and are allowed to tell a further two players a completely incorrect hint.
Once people have hints (correct or otherwise), they can either keep them to themselves in the hope that they're correct, or share them, hoping that the hint they have is wrong.
It is also a good idea to build up forum alliances, so you can have a network of people to try and get hints from. Beware of false alliances though.
At the end of the contest, the points will be added up and a winner declared!
This game should be a great way of having a laugh, finding out "stuff" and making friends!
There are some finer details that will have to be given, naturally.
The Official Rules of the Game
Rules, interpretation and changes are at all times down to Rachael98
All answers must be PMed to Rachael98 ([[LINK]] (http://forums.teamlava.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1327))
The person with the hint (from Rachael98) may only deny knowledge to 3 players, and only feed false hints to 2 others. They must tell at least one other player.
Sharing hints may not be done via the game thread
If there are 5 consecutive days of non-answering questions, a player will be disqualified. Each non-answer is minus three marks, then an extra minus per consecutive day.
Players will not lose marks for an incorrect answer.
If any player is disqualified or drops out, a bonus question will be issued to optionally answer for 25% of their points.
If my PM box is full, VM me that you need to give an answer. This will have to be done on trust that you don't say it before you've worked it out. Bluffing me is not acceptable.
There are no official prizes, except forum bragging rights and a place as winner of the first ever R98 Challenge in the Hall of Fame (which will probably appear on my website as soon as I've built it!)
This is player-run, NOT an official TL contest. All forum rules apply, however.
This is supposed to be a bit of fun. Please don't get too upset at people who deceive to you, that's not the point of it. By the same virtue, please don't be too unkind to one player.
