I think it's like other story games.
If you make goods that take 2 hours it will take 2 hours after the goods are ready to expire.
And I'm 100% sure that the 3 minute good will never expire because me and my friend are experiencing the same thing..
Only that one won't expire though

The 3 minute goods never expire (but are definitely not worth it except in the very beginning) and the other goods expire after the amount of time it took to make them.
If your goods are expired then you can either recover a small amount of them (not recommended unless you have no active neighbors), or have a friendly neighbor click on your factories to fix them back to new :)

I went to collect my 8hr goods 2 hrs after they were ready and they were expired. So I'm not sure what that was about.
