Looking at the Table of Contents you will see that information relating to dragons and breeding them is at the end of this guide. This was done deliberately as there is a lot of background information to take into account. Eg do I have the right buildings, enough food, do I have space, are my dragons at the right level.

Helpful Links

The following links contain a lot of helpful information. Throughout this guide I will direct you to these links for more in depth information.

Getting Started

When you start the game a character will take you through some basic tasks. Following these tasks will give you a basic understanding of how to hatch, breed, evolve dragons and build buildings and decorations.

One important thing to note ? at the start you will be asked to spend gold to speed up the first dragon you breed and hatch. Don?t. It doesn?t take long and gold has more valuable uses.

Gold

Gold can be used for different purposes

? Buying dragons
? Speeding up breeding/hatching/evolution/expanding/clearing times
? Buying Mystic Maps
? Buying some decorations

There?s a couple of different ways that you can get gold:

? Receiving it as gifts
? Completing certain quests
? Buying it

Money

You can gain money from:

? Collecting from your dragons
? People playing with your dragons
? Completing certain quests

Money is used to:

? Buy the starting dragons: Fire, Air, Water
? Buy farms and habitats
? Upgrade farms and habitats
? Buy most decorations
? Grow food on the farms
? Expand your island
? Clear items from expanded land

Tips

? Visit lots of people, play with their dragons and leave messages on their walls. Some will visit and play with your dragons. You can tell when they?ve done this because your habitat will sparkle. Clicking on the habitat will give you a coin and experience bonus
? It is better to have three habitats with one dragon in each rather than one habitat with three dragons.
- This is so that people can play with three habitats giving you three coin bonuses rather than one.
- It is also so that when you are not regularly collecting from your dragons you will receive more money. Eg a Large Red Rocks holds $2500. If you had three habitats you could collect $7500 instead.
? Don?t level all of your dragons up. It takes food to level your dragons and food costs money to grow. When deciding to level your dragons up you should take the following points into consideration:
- What is the coin capacity of your habitats? (Each type holds a maximum amount of coins)
- How many dragons do you have in each of your habitats? If you?ve got three dragons in a habitat it will fill up faster than if you have one
- How often do you play? If you don?t play often it doesn?t make sense to level up all your dragons. Once the habitat is full it won?t hold extra money.
- What is the earning capacity of the dragon type per level? Common dragons don?t earn that much. You are better focusing on Rare, Super Rare and Ultra Rare dragons
? When buying habitats and farms, where possible save for the larger version as the cost of upgrading is the same as buying the larger version. Ie you pay the price for the small version then you pay the price for the large version on top of that
? Clearing items costs money and time. You can visit other islands to see what items are in the area you want to clear. Doing this can stop you expanding to sections that have nasty items like wretched rocks and mouldy boulders.
? Some items are very expensive ($100000-$450000). When you don?t have much money it can be cheaper to expand to the next part of the island rather than clearing those items.

Experience

Benefits of experience:

? Increases your level
? Items become available as you level up (there is no new items past level 30)

You gain experience from:

? People playing with your dragons
? Visiting neighbours (sometimes experience, sometimes social bonus)
? Placing dragons in habitats
? Buying buildings and decorations
? Clearing items
? Harvesting food

Ways to level quickly:

? Place your dragons in habitats before selling them
? Buying and selling items. You get 1 experience/$100 and you can sell items back for 15% of what you paid for them (you get money instead of gold for items bought with gold)
? Visit lots of people and play with their dragons so they?ll play back with your dragons

Expanding your Islands

You will start will a small area that you can build in. You will need to expand this as you progress in the game. Expand your islands by:

1. Either click on an Expand sign around the islands or select Expand from the Main Menu
2. A number of squares will appear with arrows in them. Select the square you wish to expand
3. A box will popup telling you the cost to expand. When you first start it will just cost money. As you progress you will also need Mystic Maps
4. If you need Mystic Maps click on the Ask button, Select all of your neighbours and then press the button at the bottom
5. If you have enough money and maps click the Expand button

This to note when expanding:

? The more expansions you have done, the higher the cost, the more maps that are need and the longer it will take
? You can only receive 20 maps a day from neighbours
? You can buy Mystic Maps but they cost 10 gold for each map needed
? You can speed up your expansion but it costs 20 gold per hour left on the expansion
? Once you have expanded there will be rocks and plants that need to be cleared.
- Click on the item
- A box will pop up telling you how much it will cost to clear
- If you have the money select Clear
- Use this guide to see a list of all items, how much they cost to clear, how long it takes and how much experience you get: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...2hKVzJVN2sxZ0E
- You can speed up clearing times for 1 gold/hour for the remaining time
? Look at other peoples? islands before expanding ? you don?t want to expand to a square that has a Wretch Rock or a Mouldy Boulder (expensive and takes a long time to clear)

Being Social

As you visit other people and play with their dragons this will increase your social rating. People with higher social ratings appear at the top of the Community Visit list meaning they are more likely to get people playing with their dragons. This gives them more frequent coin and experience bonuses.

If someone is giving you grief (posting abusive messages or spam on your walls) take a picture of your wall and email it and their ID (or island name and level if you don?t know their ID) to support@teamlava.com. Don?t post back on their wall as it gives them a link to get back to you.

Neighbours

Neighbours are an important part of the game. They can send you gifts of gold. They can also send you maps when you request them. When you first start playing you will have one neighbour ? Stormie. Stormie is a Team Lava account. You can look at his island and be jealous of all his diamond dragons. He will also send you maps when you send a request.

How to Go About Getting Neighbours

? Putting your ID on your wall and asking people to invite you
? Visiting other islands and writing on people?s wall asking them to invite you (leave your ID)
? Going into the Add Me threads on the Team Lava forums. You can either add your ID or ask people who have posted theirs.

If you?re posting on peoples? wall asking them to invite you I always think it?s nice to ask politely rather than just writing ?add [your ID]?. If you send an invite to someone who hasn?t requested it on their wall or in the Add Me thread I also think it?s a nice touch to write something on their wall.

No everyone is going to accept your invitations. Don?t take it personally as they don?t know you. Some people keep a small group of neighbours, others have criteria under which they accept neighbours. If your invite gets rejected, move on. You?ll find other neighbours.

Neighbour Etiquette

The basic rule of neighbour (and social) etiquette is to be polite.

The second thing to keep in mind is that everyone plays the game differently. Some people delete neighbours who don?t keep a certain star rating. Some do it if neighbours don?t post on their walls. Some people can only play periodically. If you want neighbours who play in a certain way be upfront with them. If they can?t do it you?re better off deleting each other as you?ll enjoy the game more. Also don?t be offended if someone deletes you.

Buildings

There are three main types of buildings in Dragon Story:

1. Habitats (max of 25, the number you can have is controlled by your level)
2. Farms (max of 6, the number you can have is controlled by your level)
3. Dragon buildings
a. Nests (max of 4)
b. Breeding Den (max of 1)
c. Evolution Temple (max of 1)

To build one of these go to the Main Menu. If you wish to build a habitat select Habitat and then choose which habitat you wish to build. If you wish to build one of the others select Buildings from the Main Menu then select what you wish to build. Once you have selected what you are building you need to select where it will be built. This will need to be a cleared spot large enough to fit the building. You can speed up building times with gold ? it?s 1 gold/hour remaining.

Where possible it is better to save for the larger building rather than buying a small one and upgrading it. Upgrading means that you have paid for the cost of the small building then have to pay the cost of the large building to upgrade it.

For more information on buildings check this spreadsheet - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...2hKVzJVN2sxZ0E

Food

Food is grown on farms and is used to level up your dragons.

1. Click on your farm
2. Select the food you want to grow (you need enough money)
3. When the food is ready to be harvested a food icon will appear over the farm. Click on it to get the food

Unlike most other Team Lava games, if you forget to harvest your food it won?t go off.

For more information on food costs, time, experience etc see this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...2hKVzJVN2sxZ0E

Dragons

Evolution

It may seem a little weird that I?m talking about evolving dragons before breeding them. The reason for this is that dragons have to be at level 4 to breed. Unless you started playing when Dragon Story was first released, you will need to evolve your dragon from level 3 to level 4.

1. Make sure that you have built an Evolution Temple.
2. Make sure you have enough food to feed your dragon. It takes (165) food to get to level 4.
3. Feed your dragon. It takes five feeds to go up a level.
4. When you reach the end of level 3 the Feed button will change to an Evolve button. Press this to send your dragon to the Evolution Temple. You can also send dragons to the Temple by clicking on the temple and selecting the dragon you want to evolve.
5. You can either wait for your dragon to evolve (it takes the same time as it does to breed or hatch that dragon type) or you can speed up the process with gold

Once you get past level 4 you will need to evolve your dragon from level 6 to level 7 and from level 9 to level 10. Level 10 is the highest form of the dragon and is known as Epic.

Breeding Dragons

Once your purchased the Fire, Forest, Air and Water dragons you have the ability to breed any other dragon. You can check these links to see different breeding combos/outcomes:

? http://virtualclaws.wordpress.com/

Dragons have different rarities: Common, Rare, Super Rare and Ultra Rare. Basically the rarer the dragon the harder it is to breed them.

Each dragon has certain colours associated with them. If you look in the market you will see coloured gems in the bottom left corner of each dragon. If you breed dragons that have these colours you have the chance to breed that dragon. The one exception to this is the magic dragon. It only has a purple coloured gem. You can still breed this dragon by using a Fire (red) and Water (dragon) together.

To breed dragons click on the Evolution Temple. Your dragons will appear in two lists. Select a dragon in each list to breed. Dragons that are under level 4 cannot be selected as they are two young. Once you have selected two dragons a box will pop up and ask if you want to breed them for $200. Confirm that you want to do that. You then need to wait for your dragons to finish breeding. You can speed this up with by paying 1 gold/hour remaining.

Once the dragons have finished breeding you will see a heart about the Den. Click it to send the egg to an empty Nest. If you don?t have an empty Nest you will need to wait for the other egg to finish. Once you place an egg in the Nest it will take the same time to hatch as it did to breed. You can speed this up by paying 1 gold/hour remaining. Once the egg is ready to hatch (icon appears above the Nest) click on the icon. You will be given the option to Sell or Place in Habitat (if you have a spot in a habitat with one of the dragon?s colours). If you plan to sell the dragon it?s better to place it in a habitat first as you get experience for that.

Spreadsheets on Breeding

You can use this spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...VRNTEdITmRIT1E) to select the dragon you want to try for. It will tell you the different dragons you can try, how long the breeding time will take and how rare it is to get.

Once you have two dragons in the breeding den you can use this spreadsheet to see what they are breeding - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...VlMNDZaXzVxTFE. Enter the parents and the breeding time to get the answer.

Feel free to add the results to this spreadsheet - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...FlXVlpjeTRpZ2c so others can benefit from your results.

Just remember that your dragons will not get sick if you forget to take them off the

Miscellaneous Information

In Dragon Story the number of hours in a day is 22. However any clearing/breeding/hatching/evolving etc time that is over 22 hours will show in days rather than hours. Titans take 32 hours but it shows as two days.

When speeding things up the gold cost is per hour or part thereof. If you only have 30 minutes remaining it will still cost you 1 gold (or 20 for expansions).

Other Important Information

Dragon Story is still in development. That has certain consequences which you should be aware of before becoming too invested in the game.

1. Different players have reported different costs and times
2. The amount of time/money/gold required for things can change from time to time

As mentioned earlier each dragon has a rarity level. The rarer the dragon the harder it is to get. There also seems to be a personal luck quotient. Some people can breed lots of one type of rare dragon but struggle to get a different type. I have many eagles but cannot get a mind volt.

The reason that I have mentioned these things is that it can spoil the game enjoyment for some people. If you come into the game knowing about these things you?ll be able to ignore them and enjoy the game.

It?s a good game. Experiment with your dragon breeding. Most of all have fun.
