Number of food needed rose?

Why did the number of food needed to level up a monster rise? Last night it only took 500 to level up my Wavewing to 9, now it takes 750.

I too noticed the 50% increase in food costs to level up. I did not know the drought in the US could have an impact on what goes on in the game. My guess is they want to slow us down a bit. But of course I am sadden by this since it means I am going to have to spend far more time harvesting food than I had initially planned.
