Gems needed to unlock appliances

Why does the store require 49 gems just to unlock appliances? I am on level 98 and have
seen nbrs in same level with more appliances than I do. It says I have maximum number
of appliances.

Because they bought the 24 gems each which is now 49 gems

Not long ago, it was only 24 gems to unlock a new appliance slot (past the limit you get based on level). Then TL upped the cost of appliance slots, which is unfortunate. It used to be very doable to unlock a bunch of new slots, now it takes double the amount of time. (Happened in BS too)
