How do 30 gems just disappear?

Somehow about 30 gems just magically disappeared. Didn't buy anything, expand, speed up food, didn't do anything. I love this "game" but all these shady shenanigans and bugs and various issues are really making it more stressful.....when the only reason I play is to relieve stress! THIS IS TOTAL ****!!!!!!!
