What does accepting a materials request sent by a neighbor do?

Does accepting a materials request sent by a neighbor send the item to them that they need? Or do I physically need to gift them the item after seeing the request? It's a bit confusing because if you accept their materials request you are still able to gift them a separate item.

It instantly sends the requested materials to your neighbor, no need to manually go into your neighbor list and pick out the needed part. :)

Yes, with parts request and normal gifting, you can receive up to 40 gifts per day.
