What do the flashing stars mean?

Sometimes I see flashing stars on my pets rooms.
Clicking them doesn't seem to do anything.

Anyone know what they mean?

When you collect your money from the room, if the room has stars, you earn extra coins. It means someone partied with your pets. It's like leaving tips on someone's tables in Bakery Story, for example.

Whenever you visit neighbors or community members and click the "Tap to Party" buttons hovering over their rooms, stars are left behind.

I saw a flashing pink star on the grassy part of my farm..flashed about three times then disappeared. I've been playing this game for a very long time (level 99) and this has never occurred before. Any insight?
