Gold and pink stars

Please, i'm very new at this but what are the gold stars for and how can I spend them?

The gold stars are experience points. When you collect a certain amount you will move up to the next level. You can't spend the stars like coins and gems. They just represent your progress in the game. You can see how many you need to reach the next level by clicking the Main button and then choose Profile. Then tap the Profile tab to see your current level and how many stars you need to get to the next level.
