Earning gems

On Bubble Mania, I'm low on gems and I don't know how to earn more besides buying more. Any advice?

Well, there's the limited time Pirate Island that is easy to do and rewards a handful gems. And some levels reward gems when you complete them with 3 stars, though I have no recollection which ones those were XD

Getting 3 stars on the last level of each island I think, earns you a gem, e.g. Lvl 6, 12, 18 etc, although I'm not entirely sure.
