Do you need to upgrade the game from the store or is it just a cosmetic update that you get automatically upon launching the game?

No you don't have to update the game. It's just an automatic weekly update that you get when you launch the game. You'll see a "Sucess!" box that says "the new update is here!check out the ___ dragon!"

As of now, no. The game is capped out at 25 habitats

Yep just saw it. Fire and Air Super Rare Scorpion Dragon. Looks just like the Poison except its red and yellow...

It took 3 times and gold. I ended up with a eagle, firestorm, and then the scorpion

I did buy some gold to help out to get the dragons I got. wizard and the eagle had to much wait time.

Since we are getting a possible update, I thought I might pose a question for the mods. During my expansion process I have noticed that there is one set of trees that I cannot clear. I've also noticed that on several other islands the exact same place is not expanded. Is this a glitch and can it be fixed?

There are a few areas that have things that cannot be cleared. These have been reported.
