I was checking my gems prices and they raised it. Is it just me or everyone else?

24 Gems - $5.49
50 Gems - $10.49
105 Gems - $20.99
275 Gems - $51.99
580 Gems - $109.99

If they are going to raise the prices, they should at least lower the prices for the appliance. Just saying.

Those prices aren't for me. And TeamLava shouldn't increase the price of gems for players in different countries. That's not right or fair. If they're offering you more gems for those prices then that's understandable, but they're not. That's not right at all.

My gem prices are the same. But notice on my sale the small package is 20% off while the rest are 30% off. That's NEVER happened before.

I don't know whether this is helpful, or just adds more confusion to the mix.

I am in Australia.

I have one bakery on Android and one on iOS.

When I look at the Gem prices on each device, as if I am going to by some, my Android shows the same pricing as pinkster73. But on the iOS, my pricing is the same as cast1532. On iOS I also have a price for 9 gems ($1.99) but nothing for 580 gems.

The gems are currently on sale on my iOS. They are 18% off for 24 gems, and 19% off for the rest of the prices (except the 9 gems - they are full price).

There is no sale on the Android ones at the moment, but from memory, I think they are usually all 30% off. Knowing my memory, that could be wrong.

Now for the REALLY curious part.

When I go to buy some on Android, where I can get 24 for $4.99, the price shown in the Google Playstore is..... $5.49!!! And for 580 Gems, it's $99.99 in the app but $109.99 in the Play store.

I've only ever bought a couple of batches of gems on the Android, and never really paid much attention to this - I noticed the discrepancy, but just figured it was a currency exchange thing (ie USD to AUD conversion). But now that I realise that this coincides exactly with the higher pricing that is shown on my iOS.

When the Play Store transactions land on my bank statement, it is for the exact amount that the Play Store showed them at (ie the higher pricing), so there is no further adjustment (eg for currency exchange).

Maybe the price shown in my Android device is the USD price but there is a AUD price which is fixed (ie it's not USD converted to AUD at the time of the transaction).

Who else is outside the US, and what prices do you get the gems at?

Now THAT'S interesting. Any mods or staff around that can shed some light on this?

My prices in the screenshot are in canadian dollars. If i select the 4.99 one to buy, it's 4.99. No converting. I will go now and check if the actual prices are higher in google play.

pinkster73
07-08-12, 11:44 PM
Ok the price for me is the same in both places. It's 6.99 for 50, and still 6.99 in the play store.

melby29

I'm gonna get my partner to buy some gems on his iOS game - I have never bought iOS gems before. I suspect that the iOS BS may recognise that I am in Australia, and display the AUD price, but that the Android BS doesn't know where I am so it shows the USD price - then Play Store knows I am in Australia so it shows the AUD price.

Will report back :)

Sorry, for the confusion. I forgot that I was still in my Australian account which show me thoses prices. I got scared because earlier in the day I saw they were $4.99. I just had to change countries/continents to get my actual prices.

It's not just the gems that cost more. Songs that cost me $1.29 where I live and Australian it costs more than $2.00. That's crazy.

so, 50 gems = 10 bucks.

Peeps would SERIOUSLY (49 gems) pay ten bucks for another appliance slot? Seriously?

Boy I am soooooooooooo not in the target demographic.

I wouldn't. It's not even real, it's virtual, therefore I don't need another slot. If I want to cook something else, I'll run over to my real stove or oven.... HEY, have you heard of a microwave?!

Well, that's not what I see because I have NEVER gotten a chance to buy 9 gems. That's the first time I've seen it. But that looks correct. But I think it's missing one slot.

So are the prices comparable? The differences are just due to different currencies?

No the prices actually seem to be different. If the exchange rates are correct as stated in this thread, then 275 gems in the UK actually cost
CAN $55.21 (GBP 1: CAN$ 1.578) and
US $54.23 (GBP 1: US$1.55).
In Australia, those gems would cost Can $53.94. (AUD $1: CAN$1.0376)

50 gems in Canada cost Can$ 9.99 but in Australia, 50 gems cost Can $10.88.

I am not sure about the exchange rate between NZ and AUD because if 1 NZ$ is AUD $.078 then those same 50 gems would cost CAN$16.18! Which would be ridiculous, really!

Or you can just create a Canadian iTunes account. So far, I have a Colombian and an Australian account. lol

melby29

My partner bought 24 gems on his iOS Bakery for $5.49. That is what then appeared on my iTunes statement. So it looks like I was right - the problem is that I use Android and BS doesn't realise I'm in Australia but the Play Store does.

I have no problem with things being different prices in different countries. You can buy anything anywhere these days. But a "US Dollar" is as different a currency to the "Aussie Dollar" as it is to the "British Pound". So it's not as easy as saying "I pay more for 50 Gems because mine are $10 and yours are $8" when you are talking about 2 different currencies. TL could have decided to set ONE price (USD) and anyone from outside the US who wanted gems would then need to pay USD for them and be at the mercy of the exchange rate. So it would actually cost me a different AUD amount every time I bought gems, depending on the exchange rate on the day. That would be MUCH more confusing than giving a price in the local currency so the user knows how much of their own local currency it will cost for the gems.

I mean, look at how long we all plodded along in total ignorance before we discovered (accidentally!) that different users got charged different prices!

Agree.

LynnStorm8
07-11-12, 10:39 PM
Hhmmmm, I'm in Malaysia
and on my screen (iPad),
the Gems are in USD, not Malaysian Ringgit.

Thus, I assume I'll be charged USD
and ITunes would make the necessary conversion.

Haven't purchased Gems before,
but my other online US purchases
are converted to MYR by the payment service,
whoever that may be.

melby29
07-11-12, 11:23 PM
Lynn, maybe they only created local currency pricing for their major markets like US, Canada, UK, and Australia. Do you have a Malaysian iTunes account? I just assumed, too, that my pricing was in AUD and it would be converted to US which is why I didn't really think about it when the gem purchases showed in Play Store as a different price to the price shown in BS.
