can not expand without gems

I have expanded my bakery a few times with saving my coins, but now the only way to expand is with gems. My next expansion is 18X21 at a cost of 80 gems. Before I could expand to this level for 5000000 coins, but this option is now gone. And I see that all expansions are for gems only.
This is so unfair, as I never buy gems, and no matter how many gems I win for baking, I'll never get to 80 gems.
What happened to expanding for coins?

It could be that you're not at a high enough level? I know that I've unlocked expansions for coins a couple of times when I've leveled up.

For example, I'm at Level 53, and can expand to 18x21 for 6,000,000 coins. Actually, the largest expansion I can make for coins at Level 53 is to 19x22 (for 7,000,000 coins). If I want to expand to 20x23, I could do so for 80 Gems, or I could wait until I reach Level 55 and pay 8,000,000 coins (assuming the price raises in 1,000,000 increments).

Maybe you don't have enough neighbors or it could be that you arent at a high enough level

Are you looking through the tab in design mode? You have to be high level enough or else Ye expansion will be locked for coins.

thank you for all the replies. I must not be at a high enough level yet, I'm only on level 52. I did expand twice on level 50, so I guess I'll have to wait a bit - thanks again everyone.
