I know sign language, I'm not quite fluent. I started learning 4 years ago when my daughter's hearing loss progressed to severe to profound deafness. She is now six, she hears with a cochlear implant. She prefers to use spoken language more than sign. I want her to use both so she is connected to the hearing world and the deaf community.

Usually, I teach her new signs, but yesterday she taught me one... It was "caterpillar"... it was SO cute!

I voted 2: Dutch & English. I'm fluent in these, but I can also understand and make myself clear in French & German. In the Netherlands we are used to learn multiple languages. Nowadays it's very common that children at school learn Spanish and even Chinese.

English is my native language. I speak German very well and Czech pretty fluently. I can still read Russian and handle simple conversation (learned in university). I can read French reasonably well but speak poorly (memories from classes before high school) - pouvais lire, mais je parle mal. Struggling now with Japanese...seems way tougher than the others. :-(
Languages are fun and beautiful. I certainly would like to learn more!

I know some French words, and I know a bit of Chinese, but I mainly know Canton and English. Writing in Cantonese is basically the same as writing in Chinese (which i dont really know), so i only know how to speak the language. So, i guess that's two.

So you knew French in high school???? I didn't know that. Of course we both knew "Potzrebie Nov Shmatzkapop".

As for me, I only remember a little of the German I learned in Yencha's class, plus a little bit of Greek and Hebrew I picked up over the years.
