Necessary to collect coins/xp?

Hi all, been playing pet shop and zoo story 2 for couple of weeks now, just wondering is it really necessary to manually collect the yellow coins and the paw xp once you clicked on the animal and they pop out? I've noticed they will be automatically collected if left on screen for a while, so if we exit the game before collecting them will they count?

I can not speak for Zoo Story 2, but from my experience with Pet Shop Story once you have clicked the animals the coins/xp will be automatically be collected for you and count over time or if you close the game.
