Android Users- How do you earn gems?

Hi,
This was probably answered a lot of times, but I was wondering how do you earn gems if your on an android?
I recently got a new cellphone and I downloaded the story games again, (on this account, it's on ipod touch) but I notice that there aren't any experience bars for the food and clothing.

Does this mean android users cannot earn gems? Does it mean they have to buy it?

You need to be on level 8 for mastery bars to show up
