Can't receive gifts that are not edible

When I receive gifts from neighbors that are appliance parts, I get a message that says I cannot receive them because they are not food item. What should I do?

I think you mean you can receive them, but then when you look in the gifts section, you just can't serve them up. You can however look to see if you've enough parts stored up to build an appliance before committing yourself to buying it. Which is handy as that way you don't have an appliance slot being used with nothing cooking.
