I'm waiting for the Farm expansion too. Except the 24x24 expansion had a requirement of 55 neighbors so 25x25 will probably be 60. I only have about half that many neighbors and don't want to add that many more.

I just bought a fireplace last week only so I could get under 100 gems so I wouldn't convert 100 gems to coins. Now I have to spend at least 8 more gems to get under 80 gems so I don't blow all my gems on an expansion. That sucks.

I'd rather the expansion be 160 gems than 80. I won't ever have 160 gems to accidently blow on an expansion but I often have over 80. And I wouldn't spend 40 or 80 on an expansion either if those were the prices.

I think it may be a level thing, meaning what level you are when you expand. See below the difference between my iOS Bakery, which had full expansion before this update, and my secondary part only Android new Bakery that I opened when I transferred a few weeks ago. All my Android expansion costs are 20 or 40 gems right now only, but I'm only level 12 there as I really don't use it for anything but parts to send to my iOS Bakery. Sorry about the Android picture quality, but I still can't figure out how to take pictures with that phone when I don't have the in-game camera to use, as using Home/On-Off doesn't work with the Bionic. *shrugs* So I had to use my iPad to take a picture of my Bionic. :rolleyes:

So yeah, I'd have to spend 80 gems in iOS if I wanted to expand without having to wait until I possibly gain all that cash, and in Android it's the usual 20/40 that I'm used to.

It costs me 120 gems per new expansion on my iOS. Also the 19x22 expansion is listed as 7,000,000 coins on mine, as compared to the 6,000,000 others have previously stated on theirs. With that said, I'm excited to expand to 18x21 in a couple weeks and 23x26 within a couple years haha (if I buy it with coins). Looks like I'll be starting to bake a lot more red velvet cakes to get my average plate earnings up.

How wierd...On my Android all the expansions are 40 gems. Doesn't really matter, since I don't buy gems only earn them and need millions to expand using coins, it is going to take a gazillion years to reach the limit anyway, lol :)

Also higher level players technically should have more coins and the ability to make more coins faster than the lower leveled players so they can expand with coins?

Maybe they're expirmenting. Remember a while back when the expansion prices, extra appliance, extra slots, changed prices? Just don't pay gems for the expensive ones and they will all be down to 40 gems when TL sees that we won't buy them for 80,120,160 gems ;)

I just read this entire thread; there seems to be NO rhyme or reason to the difference in the number of gems needed to expand. TEAM LAVA WHY DO YOU TAKE ONE STEP FORWARD ONLY TO TAKE TWO STEPS BACK!

Thank you for the option to expand, but the difference in the COST is ludicrous. I don't care if it's 1000 gems, just make it the SAME FOR EVERYBODY. Android users don't get goals, some people get gem sales while others don't, and some can expand for 40 gems while the SAME SIZE EXPANSION is 160 gems for others? GIVE ME A BREAK ALREADY.

However as other users have pointed out, the ridiculously high gem price will keep many users from being caught in a gem trap. Oh gee, thanks TL

I had to check how many neighbors I had in the games, as I know some of them are kind of low. In case TL decides to roll this out to all the games.

I'll be able to get to 19x22 in Empire and that will be it. That probably won't ever get an expansion update since it doesn't get any others as it is. :rolleyes:

City and Nightclub I'll just squeak into the 20x23, and City really needs these expansions. Maybe if they get it there will be more active players and I'll be able to get those few extra neighbors I need to expand past this level.

Bakery/Farm/Fashion I have about 90-100 neighbors so I'll be fine there even at the 23x26 level.

Restaurant, well by the time I get to any of these expansions I probably won't have to worry about how many neighbors I have now. I can't even get to the $1 mil mark for the expansion I've been working on for weeks, let alone worry about the $6 mil one now. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I am a level 96 player ( 4 star ) on an IPad 2 iOS 5.0 and although I love the idea of expanding, 160 gems per expansion and the crazy amount of coins needed will take me forever. I do have a lot of food on my counters (over 5 million plates)....my last expansion is 30 million coins...really? And I'm not clear if I need to add more nbrs. It would be better if it even across the board.....way too many discrepancies in gems/coins. And I wonder if it's because of the device that the game is played on? Will we be allowed more appliances? (instead of 24 gems for each additional machine).

i agree with you, mine are a 160 thats a little over $30.00 dollars to expand one level and you cant possibly do it with coins. 20 million, 30 million, i've played for over a year and i dont think i've ever had more than 5 millions coins at any given time. team lava has gotten really greedy over the past year, to the point i dont purchase gems anymore. they want way too much now for things a table 8 gems, when i started playing it was 2 or 3. sad cuz i really like the games but refuse to spend that kind of money

Since my expansion rate is only 80 it would cost me apprx $99 as I would only need 480 gems to do it, however, I won't do it. Even though I would love a bigger Bakery, I have too much food that I could just stop cooking everything and hopefully get enough coin to expand before I'm old and gray.

I'm really surprised that so many people would expand with gems. I'm planning on doing it with coins. I already had enough to buy the first one and will now start saving for the second one. No, I won't be able to do it right away, but it gives me something to keep me playing.

I can see the logic for making the gem cost so high. If it were low, a lot of people would expand with gems right away and then start clamoring for more expansions. Keeping the cost high helps prolong the value of this update.

I do think it's silly to have different costs for different users, though. I get that it's an experiment but I think the data it generates is suspect.

I have been playing for two or three years now and the most coins I have had a one time is 13 million. I can see myself managing the first two but to expect us to reach 75 million, in order to complete all the others, is absurd! I am on level 96 and have bought gems for as long as I have been playing and can't see why loyal players should be expected to pay more. There is no way I will spend 160 gems let alone 4 or 5 times yet I cannot fit all my items in at the moment.
I would love to hear an explanation for the price differences from teamlava!

I'm really surprised that so many people would expand with gems. I'm planning on doing it with coins. I already had enough to buy the first one and will now start saving for the second one. No, I won't be able to do it right away, but it gives me something to keep me playing.

I can see the logic for making the gem cost so high. If it were low, a lot of people would expand with gems right away and then start clamoring for more expansions. Keeping the cost high helps prolong the value of this update.

I do think it's silly to have different costs for different users, though. I get that it's an experiment but I think the data it generates is suspect.

Have they said it is an experiment? If so I wish I was in with the cheaper guinea pigs!

When I saw you guys post about 160 gems I just HAD to check my Android Bakery, and then I HAD to check my iOS to make sure they didn't change it there. LOL!! I just figured since I was in those tabs anyways, might as well get picture proof of the differences we all see offered to us by TL. 40 is high, 80 is very high, 160 is just out in space ridiculous and I can't imagine why TL would do that. I'm curious to see if any higher level iOS players pipe in to see what their expansion rates are for gems, as I want to know if it is the same as the Androids.

I'm a lvl 86 and mine cost 40 gems per expansion. I'm seeing higher numbers reported for lower lvl players. I'm on android, too, so I don't really know what drives the differences in cost.

You gave us 6 more expansions but you just took away all of our Christmas seasonal themed floors and wallpaper. I couldn't buy any extra with my bakery already maxed out to store for just such an unnanounced occasion. Please, please somehow give us the opportunity to buy more to go with our seasonal bakeries. I know I have/had a gingerbread theme. I bought gem tabes for this theme and the wallpaper. On my iphone the extra expansions cost 40 gems. I consider that price to be acceptable.On my ipod touch the expansions cost 160! I find the 160 gems to be totally unacceptable and greedy.Funny, I read a article just the other day about how people who play games like bakerystory,farmstory and the other similer ones by other developers are starting to show a slow down in profit.The article said how people are slowly losing intrest in these kinds of games due to high costs of virtual items.That being said I am sure TL must be aware of this fact hence all the gem sales lately but that's just the start of the issues they need to solve.I really hope TL offers players better deals on virtual goods as well as offers the same thing to everyone.

I'm thrilled about the expansions because I've been playing for so long and was tired of not having anything to work towards. I never use gems to expand, so that's not really an issue for me. I have 10 million coins right now and the top expansion for me says it costs 30 million, so that does seem high. But, I don't want to complain because I'm grateful they listened to us about wanting more expansions.

AMEN to what you said driftboutique - nobody said we had to spend our gems to expand - use coins. So many people complained about having SO MANY coins and nothing to spend them on. Now there is something to spend them on and people are still unhappy. If everything is handed to you right away you will have nothing to look forward to and the game won't be as fun and challenging.

I personally don't think TL is greedy, but trying to run a business. (Maybe because I run a business and see things differently.) If it was your business, you need to do what's best or you will loose your business. We choose to play. When it's not fun....stop. I am excited to have new goals to expand.

TL can't make everyone happy. That will never happen even though they try. The only way everyone would be happy is to give free gems, cheap expansions at minimal coin amounts, the same limited items to everyone, automated tipping, etc. That would be no fun at all! You need goals and drive in this game to make it fun, not everything handed to you on a silver platter.

Also, I believe TL has commented on expansions being hard on older devices. Understandable. By TL making it harder to earn the coin amounts to expand to the bigger levels, maybe most of the people that have older devices will by then have updgraded their phones. Most people seem to turn their phones pretty quick when the new cool thing comes out. I am sure TL is prepared to hear it from the people whose phones have trouble supporting the new expansions. They gave people what they wanted, but will still be getting the blame somehow from people with older devices.

Maybe TL is basing the cost of expansion to the amount of free space/ memory regardless of what device- just a thought. The new expansions are for those who have already reached the old limit which would mean either a high level player or someone who spends gems. Either way it is something to work towards- like a goal with expansion as prize but, you get to choose how to get there & use your own strategy. Goals take weeks- maybe even a month for me. I can easily earn a million coins in a week with 13 appliances. 40 gems expansions until I reach 18 x 21 for 160 gems & I have a little over 6 GB free space.

Feel free to add me. I don't delete neighbors unless they haven't played in over a month or have an empty bakery. With these new expansions, I doubt I'll be deleting anyone so I can get the money for visiting. I know it isn't much but it's better than none at all.

what levels are you on? I am thinking that the maybe the higher leveled players have the more expensive gem options, to maybe try and keep them from racing to get all the expansions, then being bored again. Also higher level players technically should have more coins and the ability to make more coins faster than the lower leveled players so they can expand with coins?

Well, not completely true that it depends on user level...
We are both playing at home on iOS, Iphone and Ipad.

The iphone expansions costs 40 gems, iPad expansions 120 gems.
Note we are both around the same level (32 and 35).
Price is different per device, well better said: software.
We both play on iPad now, but my game was transffered from iPhone to Ipad, and i have te lower prices...

The prices differences are completely unclear to me; 40 or 120 is absurd difference.
Here in The Netherlands suchs things would result in a complaint filed by consumer protection organisations, and on the long term it will not benefit Teamlava, they can loose customers by negative publicity too, which is a strange and only short term strategy.

Let's see in a few weeks if it becomes more clear with the prices :-)

I got a cut and paste email saying the same thing, fair enough as they are probably getting lots right now. I wrote back and asked why so many players had different prices which was totally ignored, politely so but still no answer. I wasn't going to write as I try to avoid support at all costs, they were very polite but basically got told a whole load of nothing. Either there isn't a reason or one they don't intend to share.

If you follow the previously posted thread for maximizing profit, assuming all plates sell for only 4 coins then it will take you just over 33 days to earn 6 million coins (assuming you didn't spend any). So if you figure in cost to bake the food, maybe a few extra days? Really just over a month per expansion for the first few isn't too bad. Of course if you serve foods that sell for more than 4 coins you'll get there quicker. What I love about redesigning my bakery like the thread suggested is now I have room for most of my gem decor.

I will be interested to see what it is on FS as I buy a lot of gems on BS and FS but not on RS, I am beginning to think that they are charging you more the more you have a history of spending, thinking you will cave in and they will make more!

I am at Level 96 in both RS and BS and my expansions were 160 gems in RS and 120 gems in BS on Thursday. Then on Saturday expansions on both games were at 40 gems. I liked it better at 160 and 120 gems.

A few people have stated that their prices have changed (gem wise) since the original update came out, and no, nmishii did not write asking for a lower price. She actually wants the higher one back as she never has that many gems so can't fall into an expansion gem trap. LOL

Yes, my expansions were high on Thursday. When I finally got my neighbor requirements I went to do 3 expansions for coins in BS and noticed my expansion cost was 40 gems. Then checked RS and it was also 40 gems.

If I could trade you expansion costs I would in a heartbeat. I liked having my expansion costs be 120 and 160 gems.

This is why I don't buy gems anymore. I get already nervous when I earn enough gems to be eligible for gem traps. My expansions remain at 80 gems but I plan to expand using coins once I've saved up. Like nmishii, I hope my gem expansion costs remain relatively higher so I don't fall into that gem trap. I don't have anywhere near 80 gems so I'm safe enough at the moment.

I don't think it is acceptable to charge people different prices for the same product nor to give a clear reason as to why.

I'm not convinced it is that random, mine are most expensive on games I buy a lot of gems in and cheapest on those i never really buys gems in. I would not be at all suprised if that was the case for more players. But then I never really bought the random gems sales, it is just easier to say when people don't get them due to glitches. Mine were 120 and 160 gems in RS and BS, can't recall which one was for BS, then went down to 40 a few days later, and are at 80 gems today. There's another thread where someone said this a few hours ago.

Apparently TL is still adjusting the prices to "balance the game economy so that both new and older users can enjoy the game"

Mine were originally 120, then dropped to 40 a few days ago and are now up to 80.

Mine were 120 and 160 gems in RS and BS, can't recall which one was for BS, then went down to 40 a few days later, and are at 80 gems today. There's another thread where someone said this a few hours ago.

Apparently TL is still adjusting the prices to "balance the game economy so that both new and older users can enjoy the game"

Is everyone at the same price now? I suppose that is marginally better. The whole thing is shady.

Adjusting it to make as much money as possible more like. Prices doubling like that is a farce. I refuse to spend gems on it, to be honest the whole thing has put me off buying gems all. I have stopped doing so since all this.

I just checked my Fashion as I hadn't expanded fully there yet, but I did expanded a few levels that were released, those have gone from 40 this AM now to 80 this evening, so I guess I'll be going the coin route for any future expansions there. I'll pay the 40 to expand, even though many think I'm nuts, but I won't pay 80. :)

I honestly don't believe they will. I have a feeling that they've found their "happy number" and now they're going to have it be 80 gems for all the new expansion levels. I could be wrong, but considering they had already come out with fluctuating numbers for everyone, then many people had those reduced to 40, now are back at 80? My gut's been wrong before, but I think they have finally found their "happy number".

Can you skip expansions yet if you have enough neighbors and coins for a higher expansion or do you still have to purchase them in order?!!!!

You have to do them in order.

It was 160 gems when the expansions first came out but then it went down to 80
