Hi,
I'm off to Vegas on Saturday 3rd march for the first time and being an average Brit I'm a little worried of what to expect. I think most people on here are from America so some advice would be appreciated as I don't want to look like a plank.
Also what will the weather be like remember were used to practically sub zero here in old blighty.
And one last thing should I pack casuals for night time or bring out the bling?
Thanks for replying in advance.

Jojo.

Some bling is called for, but don't go overboard. And its hot there.

It should be pretty temperate, although you might need a jacket at night (low 50's usually). You can pretty much dress however you want. There is a HUGE buffet at the Rio on Wendsday's, IIRC.

and visit the Riveria and play bingo! My buddy works there (I hope!)

I use to live in Las Vegas years ago. The downtown casinos are fun, but if you want to win, try to go to some casinos off the strip. The machines are not as tight and you have a better chance of winning.
The weather is really nice this time of year from what I remember.

Depends on what you mean by bling. Most men in here in Philly and with connections wear maybe one chain. Others like to flaunt it. Flaunters are usually Posers and get ripped off quick., So up to you.

Most of the locals dress casual, except for the "players".

Of course, I was only there for a week and that was before the Belagio opened.

I lived there years ago too. Bling is not needed even if you plan to go somewhere really fancy. They are used to people just coming in off the street. Casual attire is accepted pretty much everywhere. Go for comfortable, especially shoes.

Don't worry about looking like a plank at all. You'll blend in just fine. There is so many people there from all over they won't even notice you.

Most places don't take checks from your bank, so be sure to have cash, credit cards or travelers checks.

There are free shows you might want to check out. I remember Treasure Island Hotel had a really good free show while I was there. Looks like they've changed it but I'm sure it's still good. http://www.vegas4locals.com/free.html

Have fun, try not to lose too much money. :P

What she said, Go and enjoy what they give you FREE and it will be alot. Just don't get too tempted to gamble and if you win a little each night, you are way ahead of it, If wanna just go and know you can lose so much each day, limit it so you still have it till last day.

What does look like a plank mean? And don't tell me planking :p

A plank is calling someone dumb, not up on it etc I think in this case. OLD saying dumb as a board.

Oh and when I said wear a bit of bling I was assuming you're female. Bling on men is tacky.

I assumed "bling" in this context simply meant "dressing up or fancy" for a special evening out. Dressing up in Vegas is totally not necessary at all. I mean you can, but you won't be turned away from anywhere (that I can think of) because you failed their dress code requirement. I think the only dress code in Vegas anywhere is to actually have clothes and shoes on your body. :P

That's what I meant. Not stupid gold chains or anything. Just dressed nicely.

Bling can mean different things, You will see a Rapper wear 250,000 on neck and fingers,, then you can see a guy wearing it on wrist on one watch. I always assumed BLING meant show off, Like anyone cares while you walk with a Posse to protect you. I'd rather wear jeans to a place that looks at me as I was dirt then gauge who treated me right or wrong. 99% of the pretentious would NEVER get a tip.

It's gonna be a little warm....60-70 starting March 1st. Not too much bling...it can give the wrong impression. Be ready for a sensory overload, they do call it sin city for a reason. I agree with KP if u do gamble try Arizona Charlie. If u plan to hit the clubs there is a dress code...call to dbl check. Some require collared shirts, no jeans, no open toe shoes. The Cirque shows are great...so is the Blue Man Group. Traffic is ridiculous on the strip, especially since some schools are letting out for spring break.

Oh! And it is very tip driven....since its a huge service industry type place.

Depending on what weather you're used to, pack for warm days and chilly nights (60 to 70+ during the day, down to mid 40s at night). The weather there is similar to what I have - T-shirt during the day, light-medium weight jacket at night. And being desert - windy. As far as bling - that's up to you. Going somewhere new, it's fun to dress up. But I would really recommend comfortable shoes, there are lots of places to go just by walking there.

Hope you have a great time!

Hi , yes I am female so bling means dollying up with my best attire.
Plank is looking out of place but then again I suppose the place is so big no one woul notice anyway.
One of the things I'm most looking forward to is the culture it a little intimidating the thought but after a while I think it will be fantastic.
One last question how much and who to tip?

Thanks again

Jojo

Feel comfortable in what you tip.....valets, Restaraunt waiters/waitress, bellhops, taxi cab drivers and if you gamble, the dealer and the drink waitress's

RealFarmer1222

Yep. definitely tip...but watch out if you are in the casino, cause they WILL keep bringing you drinks.

And wear a watch, because there are no clocks.
