Gems for completed/fully upgraded families

Someone posted somewhere that we should get gems for finished families. This makes a lot of sense and I hope TL sees that.

How else will they build gem earning into the game?

Excellent idea! There are no ways besides the goals to earn gems, and there's not much difference between the 1st and the 2nd upgrade. Getting a gem would be perfect!
