Q1: You get 1 gem for mastering a food at Level 2 and another at Level 4. Join TL contests under events and contest on this forum, you will be able to recieve free gems if you win.

Q2: No, even if you format your phone, your game is safe on the TL servers, would help if you could remember your storm8id and current level in case when you re-download there is a problem then you can email support. Usually you can dl directly without loss.

your andriod devices should have this function called "badges" under "messages" tab i think, play them and sometimes you do get gems as rewards. Doing things like buying deco, tipping others, cooking and serving food etc. There are 3 levels, bronze, silver gold. Reaching the gold level may get you gems.
