collectable XP points... method or madness?

First I want to thank Team Lava for including Android in the goals and collectables portion of RS.

Secondly I have noticed the collectable XP seems random though I know this can't be the case.

So my question is: do the collectable XP points get earned for specific actions?
If so is there a chart or explanation as to how?
