Make lots of friends (add neighbors); send gifts to them (gifts are free, you don't have to pay for them) and they will send some back to you. Put these gifts out for sale on your counters and you'll start earning money. Once you have some, start making French Toasts, lots of it, to level up and gain mastery over your cooking s****s; you'll be awarded with more exp points and coins as your mastery goes up.

By the way, give Stew as gifts so that your neighbor will (might) do the same as each plate sells for quite a bit.
