Try holding your breath couple of times it will widen the range between each hiccup then goes away, that works for me

Hmmm...if this continues, u should see a doctor as it can be a sign of something more serious...quick suggestions: eat smaller, more frequent meals; eat and drink much slower; elevate the head of your bed while sleeping; do not lay flat after eating/drinking for at least two hours; reduce your stress level...

If you have hiccups everyday for one week, then you MUST see a doctor to make sure nothing else is going on.

Are you in adolescence?

Usually when you get hiccups it means your intestines are growing :)

I've always taken a half-teaspoon of plain white sugar. Don't know why it works.

It can be a sign of something more serious if it lasts everyday for a week or longer. Some people can have hiccups for weeks/months. Since you already had an issue for a few days, I thought I'd let you know about the need to see a doctor. I am not sure of your age (and I'm not asking), but problems are somewhat different in adults and children. For adults, GERD is a common disease that causes recurrent hiccups. In children, it can be a number of issues including GERD, anxiety, and more serious problems like neurological, kidney, lung injuries.....

In most cases, it is nothing- you got too much air in your stomach....but, Remember to go to the doctor if you have hiccups everyday for one week.

lol... this is weird.... i was reading yesterday and one of the characters had hiccups and couldnt stop. so her friends hit her (didnt work) but what worked was when someone scared her. i think your hiccups have stopped by the time i post this... lol :D

Yes, definitely see a Doctor if it continues too long.

I don't mean to scare you, but people have died from it because it damaged their lungs.

See a doctor immediately if it persist.
U may be refer to specialist.
This persistence of hiccups can damage your internal organs.

Ummm, this is a dramatic group :). Death is highly, highly unlikely. When it does happen, it is usually in a severe morbidly obese individual who is hiccuping frequently ---for many hours and days. Basically, they are unable to catch their breath and that inability to get oxygen causes their death. It is a terrible tragedy to witness.

Since the original poster has been posting around the board and his/her hiccups are coming and going, I think he or she will be just fine. Various posters have provided home remedies that work well--spoon of sugar on the tongue, biting a lemon, being scared, etc, etc. hopefully that will resolve the hiccups.

If a single episode of hiccups lasting more than 3 hours, then the person should seek medical help. If he/she has hiccups everyday for seven days, then go to the doctor to find out the underlying cause (can be medicine, underlying disease, stress, and many other issues). of course, the person would seek medical attention at any point necessary.

Hopefully, OP feels much better and the hiccups have resolved.

Get a cup, fill with water.
You'd normally drink out of the side neatest to you. Instead, use the side farthest from you:).

I've heard that all those remedies are placebos. Hiccups will stop when they're good and ready, not before

My dad had hiccups for about eleven (!) days, nothing worked. He went to see a doctor and he pushed some place on his back and it finally stopped!
I usually swallow 3 times while holding my breath. Works great :)
