The free coffee table is from United Furniture Wearhouse. The box says made in china. It's cheap. $150 for coffee table and 2 end tables. We went higher end on the couch.

Pretty good price.

A couple years back my mom got a Martha Stewart coat rack. It was a horror to put together as none of the wooden pins would fit.

It was made in Vietnam. I figured it was payback for the war....

Huge boxes and bubble wrap are just so much fun. Back to the basics. It's the same kind of thing as my cats. They have a whole basket of assorted cat toys like catnip mice and balls with bells, but the best toy ever is the little plastic ring off the top of milk jugs.

Tell us about the last time you fell down.
On Saturday I was about to put my 24 mth old in the car, I tripped over the shopping trolley, and thought a thousand thoughts in two seconds!
I'm falling, I can't put my hands out because I'm carrying the baby, I cant NOT put my hands out because I'll fall flat on my face and squash the baby. After a thousand years (it seemed like) I got so close to the ground, then threw her to the side, and landed, grazing and bruising both my legs.
Bubby cried but was ok, but the whole thing was witnessed by people getting into the car opposite. My pride was hurt most of all. And my husband laughed at me.

I must be getting old as I can't recall a funny fall down story about myself, but I know there are some. I do have one about my oldest son though, it was from when he was a baby.

I had been at work and my mom was watching him, he was about 7 months old at the time. My older sister was home from college for the weekend and wasn't used to having a baby around the house, at least not a semi mobile one. My mom had put him in the walker I kept at her house and was letting him tool around in the kitchen/hallway/dining room area when my sister comes downstairs with a basket full of laundry. Now their washer/dryer was in the basement and the basement door is right off the hallway. My sister was not used to having to close the basement door, so she didn't. My son, in his walker, decided to check out this new area that is normally off limits to him and proceeded to move his walker in that direction. My mother was cutting up veggies for her stew on the other side of the kitchen so was none the wiser. She just figured he was walking down the hallway as usual, not realizing that my stupid sister didn't shut the darn door behind her.

Next thing my mom hears is "thump, thump, thump, thump" and then my son giggling like a mad man. She runs down the hall and looks down the basement stairs and there is my son at the bottom clapping his hands with a big smile on his face giggling. The walker never turned over or sideways, it just went down the stairs as if he was walking down the hallway. My sister came running from the other side of the basement and looked at my mother with a sheepish look on her face and a "oops" kind of a giggle while my mother was about ready to commit murder.

I didn't find out about this right away, it came out about a year later at one of our "telling of the past" stories. Needless to say I never allowed my sister to watch him alone, at least not until she had her own kids and learned to be more attentive.

Of course this incident didn't get past my son, who would continue to try to open that door for years afterwards. My mother finally had my father put a chain lock on the top of it that was out of his reach so he would stop trying to get down there, even when he no longer used the walker. To him it was like a ride and he enjoyed it completely. My mother on the other hand, did not. LMAO!

OMG, I'm dying from laughter right now. My poor 4th grader, his life is ruined don't you know. This year for spelling they get 30 words, and they have to write them out 3 times and put each word in a sentence. Last year (3rd grade), they only had 10 words they had to write 3 times and use only 5 of them in a sentence. They would even get extra points if they could use more than 1 word in the same sentence.

He just came downstairs after finishing his spelling whining and complaining about how his life is ruined because the spelling this year takes so long and there is too much writing and how his hand hurts now. He also stated that with all this writing there wasn't much spelling going on. Really? Not much spelling with all that writing? What do you think you're doing when you're writing if you're not spelling? I get the eye roll and the "don't use logic on me, I'm tired and cranky".

*snorts*

Gotta love this kid, seriously.

LMAO!

A-ha! Your sister is the reason they've banned those walkers!

Ridiculous how parents leave baby seats on counters, that's just asking for an accident. Now they're recalling Bumbo Baby seats to have restraint belts. Well.. don't put them on the counters, put them on the carpet.

LMAO, and he grew up to be an avid ski maniac. He went to the mountains every weekend to snowboard and when he was really young, too young for skiing, he'd beg to go sledding whenever it snowed. It all started with my darn sister. LMAO!!!

I never even bothered with a walker for my other 2 as most of my house was carpeted and they loved the swing and the musical bouncy seat so much that they probably never would have used it even if I attempted to put them in it. My youngest wouldn't even go in the one that didn't move that they had at his doctor's office. However, he's always been a momma's boy and wouldn't even leave my arms so I could go to the bathroom in peace. He'd cry as soon as I put him down, it made taking showers and doing dishes/laundry unbearable that I usually had to wait for the hubby to get home from work before I could do anything!

When I was YOUNG, nevermind when my parents were young, they'd stuff 7 kids in a 4-5 seat car. We used to have this Volvo back in the early 70s that fit 4, well we were a family of 5 and when we had our friends with us, we were a family of 8, and we all packed into the Volvo. We never used seatbelts. Most of the time you didn't need them as the cars were made of METAL and it would take a serious accident to even dent the things. Not like cars today where a fender bender practically totals a car. LOL!!!

My father took us all to the race track (I can't recall if it was the one in NH or Maine), but anyways they did car racing on the ice. I was about 3, so don't recall much from that trip. My mom stayed home as she didn't care for those, so he decided to have a bit of fun afterwards and drove the Volvo onto the ice and took us for a lap. That is about all I remember from that trip as I slept most of the way there and back.

When I was in Jr High and High School we used to sit in the back of pick-ups, even on the highway, and it was ALLOWED. Not anymore. Gosh I miss the 70s/80s sometimes. Cars were made well and we got to have fun, fun, fun. Now everything is so serious and built like.....................Well I can't use the word I want, but you get the jist.

LOL, it depends on your State as many implemented that law at different times. I think when seatbelts became mandatory maybe? I know it's illegal in NH but seatbelts aren't, nor are helmets for bike/motorcycle drivers, unless you're under the age of 18 I think. I'm always yelling at the hubby to put his seatbelt on, as he hates to wear it. Since he mostly only has to drive in NH, he claims he doesn't have to, but when we go to visit my parents in MA he does, as it's law there, and he still forgets or grumbles at me.

Wow, do your Monties not have anything to do that they pull people over that aren't wearing their seatbelts? :p

In MA they just pull you over for other infractions and if you're not wearing it, they ticket you for that as well as why they pulled you over, but they never pull people over just because they weren't wearing it. They don't have time with all the other drivers they're pulling over for whatever reason or they can't tell when people are driving 75 MPH and flying past them. hehehe

It's city police in the city, Mounties outside of city limits. And yes, they pull you over just for not wearing your searbelt. And stop you for jaywalking across a deserted street at 12:30 at night when you run across the street for an emergency bag of Doritos.

Here you can go without a seat belt in the backseat (or truck bed) once you turn 16... we used to sit on the fender or the tractor while they baled hay usually 2 kids on each side after they ran out of room on the hay wagon for us we were ages four to seven.

Ahhhh, that's cool. We were daring back in the day, we didn't have seats in the back and a few even used to lean over the side as they were plowing down the highway at 55MPH. They're stalking you pinkster. Have you been having bad thoughts of moving to iOS or something? I think they're trying to tell you something.

Moving on......My morning has been awful!!!! Thank goodness my 12 year old is semi-independent. I kept hitting snooze on my alarm again and he finally came in at 615a and woke me up to say "bye" before heading out for the bus. If that poor child had to wait until I crawled my butt out of bed, he'd miss the bus and most likely be late for school as well. I'm going to be in trouble, or dependent on him, to get his younger brother up when the time comes for him to take that same bus at that same time, as I can't get him out of bed even at 715a, let alone at 5-530a. This morning my husband finally got annoyed with him and started spraying his face with the water bottle. It didn't bother him a bit, he just rolled right over and attempted to go back to sleep again.

I'm really regretting getting that Loft type of bunk bed a few years ago, as it's way too high up for me to grab him and just yank him out of his bed.

OMG that's the total opposite of my house. I am unable to hit snooze so I jump out of bed right at 6 and wake everyone up. If I didn't sometimes push my son out the door by 6:45 he'd miss the bus. My daughter who's a year and a half younger doesn't need pushed.

Gee!!! What time are your children starting school in the US/Canada???
Queentina, is your son in secondary school? 6.15 is early to take the bus!
My 11 yr old started secondary school this year, but lucky him, we are less than 10 minutes walking distance from the school, so he leaves home only at 8.00.

Our school system is a bit whacked, to be honest. There are some towns that have kids in Elementary until 7th grade, then they go to the Middle School/Jr High, ours doesn't.

K-4th at Elementary (830a-245p and the bus comes at 805-810a). We have 3 Elementary schools in my town.

5th-6th at Upper Elementary (840a-255p and the bus comes at 805-810a) Different bus from above but they both come at the same time so the kids REALLY have to know their driver and bus number so they don't get on the wrong bus. All 5th and 6th graders go to this school.

7th-8th at Middle School (730a-2p and the bus comes at 630-635a) This bus and the High School bus are the same. They put 7th graders (12 yr olds) on the same bus as 9th-12th (14-18 yr olds if they don't have a car). INSANE

9th-12th at the High School (740a-215p) see above for bus info.

Because the Middle School and High School bus picks up ALL kids that go to either school, it has to go to both schools to drop the kids off, so it comes earlier. Because WE are the first stop, and the stop is a few streets away, he needs to leave the house by 620a at the latest to make sure he gets to the stop in time. I live on a circle that is off a dead-end, so he has to walk to where the dead-end street meets up with the main road to catch the bus. The bus drops off the Middle School first, then goes to the High School. At the end of the day it picks up the Middle School first, then goes to the High School.

At least they have a system where all Middle School kids can only sit in the front half of the bus and the High School kids are more or less relegated to the back. This is obviously so the driver can not only keep an eye on them, but since they get off first and picked up first at the school, it makes it easier for dropping-off/loading purposes.

I live 2 miles from all the schools my boys would go to, just in all different directions, and there are no sidewalks, so walking would be a pain.

LMBO I'm the same way!!! Sometimes my 10 yr old will be coming into my room at 630 to say hey Mom.... wake up!! He'll remind me that I won't have enough time to take a shower!!
I'll be so tired sometimes I'll wait till just a few minutes before dropping him off at school to wake up LOL... just enough time to brush my teeth and wash my face before stepping outside to drive him off at school at 7:15.
I am not a morning person!! If I could I'll sleep in till 2pm LOL!!
But I'm also up late doing school work :/

Argh, I wish my 12 year old would wake up in the mornings! You gals are lucky for that!

I get up between 6-6:30, depending on how many times I hit snooze ;) That's so I can have some "me" quiet time to wake up. My daughter is pretty easy to wake up, but sometimes is a pain for getting dressed. My 12 yo is the pain - dude, wake up, dude, wake up, dude, get out of your bed now before I fill it with ice. Hopefully by 7:15 everyone is awake, and getting ready. We leave at 7:30 so I can drive them to school (no bus for this school - but I'll take that over the horrible schools closer to us). If I had to rely on one of my kids waking me up....

LOL sehana & greygull.

You know what gets me, I haven't changed in the past 3 months. So why all of a sudden will my 12 yr old rather WALK to school if he missed the bus instead of me driving him? A few weeks ago my 10 yr old shut off my 12 yr old's alarm clock sometime after he'd gone to sleep, so he never got up until I woke him up at 6a (I hit snooze again). He rushed through combing his hair and teeth and grabbed a Nutra Grain bar for breakfast and dashed out of the house. He REFUSED to slow down and just let me drive him. Thank goodness he'd taken a shower the night before, as normally he takes it in the morning to help wake himself up.

Now 3 months ago I was volunteering at his school, I was there ALL THE TIME. He had no issue with being seen with me. Heck, I picked him up after Running and Movie Night, but NOW he won't let me drop him off? It isn't like ANYONE is going to see me. Sheesh.

My hubby thinks it's hysterical, I find it annoying. Now I have to make sure his alarm clock isn't turned off or set incorrectly before I go to bed, as I can't trust my 10 yr old not to pull another stunt like that.

09-18-12, 12:24 PM
Teenagers (and pre-teens) - what can we do with them? I haven't gotten the "don't drive me places" yet, but probably because everywhere he wants to go is too far. He offered to walk to one of his friends houses - Google Maps put it at just over 23 miles away!

If I didn't have to sign my daughter in everyday at school, he wouldn't want me to come into the school at all. He already jumps out of the car and gets well ahead of us, I'm guessing "to not be seen with his mom and sister" lol. I find it hilarious when my daughter starts yelling after him, waiting for a response :)

I hate it when that happens. Or the late night "Mom, I need this (whatever it is) for school tomorrow". And of course we don't have it.

My son can be a goof. When he was in 2nd grade, he played soccer. So he had all the gear for it then (5 years and several inches ago). At 9:30pm the other night, he said he needed to find his shin guards for soccer this year (and of course he needed them for the next day for practice). I just laughed at him - those guards would fit my daughter now, not him!

I would take her as the exception too pinkster.

That's funny GG. My kids never drink soda, even when they go to b-day parties. My oldest didn't really start drinking it until 11th grade, and even then only occassionally. Parents are always amazed when my kids would ask for milk at a pizza party while all the other kids wanted juice boxes or soda. I didn't really deter them from drinking it, I just didn't promote it either. They drink juice boxes or kool-aid but prefer either milk or water. I think they get that from me because when I was a kid, I only really drank water or gatorade, hardly ever soda. I didn't start drinking soda really until AFTER I was old enough to drink alcohol (21), go figure.

greygull
09-19-12, 02:31 PM
My daughter isn't a big fan of soda either. Once in a while, she will want a strawberry or orange soda, but doesn't seem to like any of the "normal" sodas. I'm against sodas you can't see through (Coke/Pepsi/etc), except root beers. Sorry, but if I can use it to clean up battery acid, I don't want to drink it lol. But she doesn't care for Sprite at all. I wish I would have filmed her - one time she asked Daddy for a drink (carbonated water). She held it up, drank a bit down, and spit the rest out in a stream! Very much an awwww moment :)

My son is the opposite - getting him to drink anything but soda takes threats. Except while at school or out with friends, he will drink other things (mostly water). I need to kick him out more often lol.
