Usually the items with a shorter time to finish give you the most XPs per hour. When you level up you get XPs so master the items starting with the shorter times. And in a time frame (e.g., 8 hrs), between coins, XP, and items made, pick the ones that give you the most XPs.

When visiting your neighbors you will also randomly get coins and xp(stars). So visiting alot of nbrs can give you extra xps to help level up.
