German thing. Goes with German beers. It's boiled/fermented cabbage side dish, topping. Common in USA with all the German immigrants here.

And goes great with pastrami sandwiches. :D

Goes great with hot dogs too (hint hint).

Also, the German side of my family says that eating some on New Years is good for financial luck throughout the year. I'm not 100% sure that true - but since I started trying it out with my family, every year does seem just a tiny bit better in the money department.

I did say it was a topping....I had it in hotdogs but pastrami? Interesting idea ;)
