you earn gems by mastering your food(after level 8). Also you can earn gems by entering forum contests. Click on forum button above and scroll down the events and contents.
When a new contest starts, a new thread will be posted.

U get 1 gem every time u complete lvl 2 mastery of all food items, u can also enterbthe contests TL holds on Facebook, account required.
