What are the leaves that are shown while harvesting?

Wile harvesting some crops, aside from the money and experience points i see also some leaves.
What are those?

They are crop mastery points. There are 4 levels of mastery. On gaining level 4 you are awarded (free) a gnome, currently a red girl gnome although it used to be a blue boy gnome. Some players regard mastering all plants the ultimate goal of the game and indeed, it probably is.

On gaining Level 2 of a plant or tree you will be awarded one gem (free). So, definitely something to go for.

Quite a lot of farming though. You are awarded one leaf point ("LP") on planting (but not trees) and two on cropping - you get two on cropping trees. The levels for crops are -

Leaf One - 500 LP's
Leaf Two - 1000 LP's
Leaf Three. - 2000 LP's
Leaf Four. - 4000 LP's

Trees are different - you will need to crop each type of tree about 870 times to gain level 4.

... and I should have added that you can check your progress in the Store where at the top of each plant or tree displayed there is a meter showing your progress up your current LP level and also four indicator levels which "light up" on being achieved. If you go to the Store now, look at the plants you've most planted since starting - you'll see the meter having moved in comparison to plants you haven't planted yet.
