Game keeps resetting, especially when I try to accept gifts from neighbors

This problem started yesterday, and still happens today. So frustrating to keep redoing my farm. I haven't watered my neighbors since it happened, but I fear that at some point I'm going to have to check messages and it will happen again. Help! I play on a second generation ipad.
