Prize Information

Dark Knight drops include: adamant, iron ore, jewels, mithril, silver ore, stone, wisp lanterns, wyvern milk (please post other drops as there are generally more than what's on the splash screen!)

Double Sword Knight drops include: creep tooth, fur, hearty feast, simple feast, trade tickets, troll horn

Gladys the Knight drops include: coal, earth wisps, fey crystal, jewels, longswords



Monster Hunt Information
The following notes have been generally consistent from season to season. Season specific information may be posted in the respective discussion thread.

* Check you can spawn monsters!
* Pink Skunkupines don't drop tokens when you defeat them. They might spawn from pink and wedding alicorns.
* Gem horses may not spawn glimmer trolls.
* Trolls may be included but they change from being included season to season.
* Monsters also drop their normal items in addition to the tokens.
* Do the Bronze Hunter Trade if you are nearly maxed on Shield tokens so that they don't go to waste.
* A Level 5 Jousting Arena will spawn a monster on every collection. Link to Jousting Arena Renovations (https://forums.storm8.com/showthread.php?83751-Castle-Story-08-06-Update-Jousting-Arena-Renovations-(levels-4-amp-5)) thread.
* The Mythic Research Center (from L22) crafts are available to craft anytime if you have the tokens.
* If it's your first Monster Hunt, the new trades might appear after you do 1 of any trade in the Trade Wagon.
* Remember to collect from Princess Lorelei's fountain for a chance at gold tokens (about a 1 in 3 drop rate)

* BLUE DIRE BOARS will only spawn once a day.

Summary:
1. Horses (for unlimited glimmer golems)
2. Dead trees (for once daily blue dire boar)
3. Princess Lorelei's fountain (chance to drop gold troll tokens)
4. Jousting arena (level five guaranteed monster spawn)
5. Monster statues (drop silver tokens)
6. Troll sparring pit (guaranteed troll spawn)
7. Lair of beasts (guaranteed monster spawn)
8. Go through inventory for any monster traps
9. The Prison (mermaid storyline) (guaranteed marmosea spawn)
10. Other kingdom monsters, eg muddlings, snakes etc will only drop points, not tokens

Did S8 purposely eliminate the goal to summon a blue dire boar? Limiting it to one was bad enough, but eliminating it all together makes it worse!

Edited to add: I had the music on so I know that I did NOT have a monster on the board. There was no goal to summon one, so it was as if I tried to summon one even before I chopped the dead tree. I had to buy a dead tree, so I know it was my first chop to try to summon one.

I am glad to hear that others were able to summon one, so I hope that the goal shows up later.

I came back to add that the goal did finally show up yesterday.

Ah this is my second beast hunt. I need to go check out the thread. I was able to get the cow to spawn the knight

I also found out something while trying to find my horses in storage. I don't have to keep clicking the arrow to go to the next page in inventory. We can scroll through the items. That seems easier to visually sort the inventory. This also works with the items in the marketplace.

Did S8 purposely eliminate the goal to summon a blue dire boar? Limiting it to one was bad enough, but eliminating it all together makes it worse!

Edited to add: I had the music on so I know that I did NOT have a monster on the board. There was no goal to summon one, so it was as if I tried to summon one even before I chopped the dead tree. I had to buy a dead tree, so I know it was my first chop to try to summon one.

I am glad to hear that others were able to summon one, so I hope that the goal shows up later.

I did not get a blue boar either. I had the music on and no monsters on the board. Strange.

I have that armored kitty thing. I am only moderately happy with that. It said that it would drop expansion items, but I only got an expansion permit once, and never any trade tickets. I don?t consider the other things she drops, like milk, to be expansion items.
And you are right, the animation is very strange. I do not know if it is supposed to be dancing...

Please explain how this works: started to follow the usual things to do which did not prompt the Leader Board ****, ****ed a blue dire boar and them the stuff started up about leader board. Activated golem and when hitting that finally started to generate coins. So lost the 40 hits with that happening. Thought maybe another blue dire boar may come as resets are common practice but not in this case.

The 3 goals for defeating monsters finally showed up, and I was finally able to get a blue direboar.

Also the Jousting Arena (level 5) will spawn monsters and the original statues of the Skunkupine, Fangbeast, and Dire Boar will drop tokens once a day.

I’m crafting the Dark Knight because I was maxed on Gold tokens and I’ve already crafted everything else that I want. I will work to replace the tokens, but I DESPISE the Leaderboard. I don’t think players should be pitted against each other.

I'm more or less in the same situation, although I "only" have 89k stored energy. Used 20 gold coins to get the Dark knight, and just 1 buninja and 2 sirens left to make. Why bother then?

I have to agree with those saying they aren't much interested in this MH (let alone LB). I have nowhere near as much energy stored and I still have quite a lot of creatures I could craft in the MRC, but they don't seem worth the effort right now. If it had been longer since the last hunt, I might go for a second WP or a Direwolf, but as it is I'm seriously considering stopping now, after only collecting enough gold token for the last upgrade on my Wizard Portal. I feel like I could better use this week to increase my energy store. As someone else said earlier, I would also dearly love getting a Monster hunt with old Monsters again. It's been an age since the last one and I adore those!

Well, to those who are participating: Happy hunting and best of luck! I do generally love monster hunts, and if you still depend on the free energy refills, it's definitely worth working towards more energy droppers!

You Energy max is not 40. It just gets (automatically and free) refilled to 40.
When you collect from Energy droppers (Wizard School, Unicorns for example), you can get beyond 40 energy.
People with that much stores energy probably have A LOT of energy droppers, and they gain more energy then they spent.
They never get the free refills however.
If you don't have an army of Energy droppers, it's best to just spent your energy and take upmost advantage of the free refills.

Do you have any energy droppers yet, like a Wizard School or an Alicorn? Have you noticed how you can go over 40 energy if you receive energy from one of those droppers or maybe if you level up in your kingdom (if you're not at 50 already) when you are already at (or close to) 40? You don't get the free energy refill anymore at that point, obviously, but if you have enough alicorns etc, you can keep increasing your energy. That's how people "store" energy.

Back on topic for the Monster Hunt: I'm still undecided whether to keep participating or not. There's still a lot for me to get from the MRC if I want to. In Terms of Energy droppers I could work towards either a second WP or a Direwolf, but at 85 Tokens they are so expensive and take a really long time to amortize the initial energy investment! I also have a few of the "cheaper" creatures left, like the Armored Shadow Wolf and the Armored Flyger. But while their Drops are "nice to have", I do have other Sources for those drops. What to do, what to do??

If I were you I would not consider storing energy for a long long time.
40 Free energy multiple times a day is a huge benefit not to be underestimated.
Enjoy the refills, make good use of them and gather as much energy droppers and other useful things as possible.
Start thinking about storing energy when you have so much you don't know where to spent it on.

I'm not sure if you want to add this to the guide, but I did the Thurston Defeat the Troll King task and while it did give me leaderboard points, it did not give any tokens. The troll King has 99 health, but like other beasts, it did not take all 99 swings to defeat him.

My Armoured Lizard from MRC that I got in last MH dropped its first expansion permit today. That MH was In the middle of May. So it's kinda a rare drop. Usually ithe drops have been a black flag for earth wisps. (Or something else I was maxed on)

I have the same problem, but as far as I know there's nothing to do about it.
I'm fighting Golems too all day (+1 Direboar a day + spawns from Prison, Jousting Arena and Troll Sparring Pit)
I just let the Staff Tokens go to waste.

You could try to spawn other monsters that drop more Sword Tokens than Staff Tokens, but then you'll waste a lot of energy on trying to spawn them.
Not worth it or an improvement in my opinion.
If you would be interested in fighting other monster, maybe someone else who does that too can help. I'm not sure what the best approach would be given I prefer another.

Special spawns can drop tokens, but their is no guaranty. In general it is not the case, but teach hit grants a point as any spawn.

While collecting from my daily energy resources something mysteriously happens as it does frequently in this game and the next thing I knew I was speeding up a weekly Alicorn. Lost a huge amount of gems. I put in a support ticket and asked for a gem confirmation button because they know no one is going to willingly speed/spend that amount of gems. Usually I can avoid the gem traps or if it does happen it is a trivial amount that I let it go. So disappointed and disheartened right now.

Yes, that 24 hour timer is very annoying indeed.
Armored Alicorns are 15 Golden Troll Tokens, Unicorns 25.
But if you don't have many Spellbound Dew droppers yet, those guaranteed drops each day can really make a difference...
I would still go for the Unicorns, but you can't go wrong either way, they are all must haves!

I don't see any other reason for traps not to spawn a monster.

I have 45 out of 70 Golden Troll Tokens for the Mythic Research Center!

After that I do plan on trying for a Unicorn first, but I still have a ways to go just to open up the MRC.
I might not make it, but I do have the Beastbane Display so might be able to earn enough in-between MH events to open up the MRC.

I don't have the Grand Rooted Lilium yet, as i'm on the wait-on-your-neighbors portion of the Sabina questline, so i've just been focusing on taking down as many Purple Glimmer Gollums as I can and doing my once-daily blue Dire Bore. I stopped collecting from everything except my guaranteed Energy Sources, stopped trying to spawn Fangbeasts at all, and am now using all my energy for monster fights.

I had traded for Princess Lorelei's Fountain on the first day of this MH to get full use from it this event, now thinking I should have waited until after unlocking the MRC but I already had 1 Blue Sapphire and just needed 1 more. Oh well!

Edit: Meant to say that the monster traps from previous events seem to earn LB Points, but not Tokens! I spawned an Anglerfish and got LB points and old event drops only, and I think I read earlier that someone else got only points from a Quest-spawned boss too. Fighting other monsters seems to be completely not helpful unless you're focused on Points and/or in a non-spend LB. 😊

I don't see any other reason for traps not to spawn a monster.

I am here to sing the praises of the grand rooted lilium. Not only does it spawn fangbeasts, also spawns fauns and fauns = faun of seals for expansion. Helps break up golems and round out tokens.

Does anyone have a picture of the grand rooted lilium? I tried finding it in inventory and in my kingdom the last time we had a MH. I don't know where to find pictures of this and other items that I don't know what they look like.

I have 45 out of 70 Golden Troll Tokens for the Mythic Research Center!

After that I do plan on trying for a Unicorn first, but I still have a ways to go just to open up the MRC.
I might not make it, but I do have the Beastbane Display so might be able to earn enough in-between MH events to open up the MRC.

I don't have the Grand Rooted Lilium yet, as i'm on the wait-on-your-neighbors portion of the Sabina questline, so i've just been focusing on taking down as many Purple Glimmer Gollums as I can and doing my once-daily blue Dire Bore. I stopped collecting from everything except my guaranteed Energy Sources, stopped trying to spawn Fangbeasts at all, and am now using all my energy for monster fights.

I agree with your logic. BUT for me hitting that same purple golem was driving me mad with boredom. But I have a lot of energy to "burn" and can try various methods.
I agree that players just starting out do need to conserve their energy and just focus on golems for building up their gold tokens as quickly as possible.

I'm even bored with the LB. I'm just trying to mix it up since I have all I want from MRC. That includes chopping the Grand Rooted and the marmoseas as I have over 400 of the reefs.
I went ahead and got 4 Armoured lizards because I have a lot of swamp area...Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised. But not holding my breath.
And for players on certain goals it is as the saying goes- ****ing two birds with one stone. So to speak.

I think I'm done with this LB. It's likely I'll end up in second because it seems that I'm competing against a player with very deep pockets. I've used some of my accumulated gems for score boosting but not money on this LB and have no intention of doing so.

I started this LB with about 12,000 energy points, thanks to my herd of daily and weekly energy givers, and was able to build my points at a steady 2K+ points a day, hacking at Golems, Double Sword Knights, Wisps, Fauns, and other beasts. The other player was able to keep up with me but he had zero energy givers and had about four horses out, so, I'm guessing he was relying on crafting items in the Magic Forge; but, that would still require a lot of energy that had to be purchased because of his lack of energy givers. To top it off, when the deus ex machina appeared, the player's score jumped by more than 5K.

Well, I'm only interested in getting the Double Sword Knight, so, second place is fine :)

I've tried this for a while and it works great!
The Marmoseas give 4 to 5 Sword Tokens each, BUT the awesome thing about them is that they only have 6 health,.. meaning less then 6 energy to defeat them.
I'm maxed on Cursed Reef because the fully upgraded Tidegate drops them like crazy.
In any case, very much recommended for people who have Cursed Reefs and need Sword Tokens.
I now have to fight Golems because I have to many Sword Tokens, haha

I'm thrilled it looks like I won't be ending up third place again, but lower. I much prefer the energy crate from lower prizes.

I'm saving up for my first Wizard's Portal, but I only have 39 Golden Tokens, so i'll have to wait till next Monster hunt.
Hard to not spent the Tokens, but on the other hand.. 85 Golden Tokens are to many for me to gather in 1 Hunt, so without saving I will never be able to get it..

I have to chuckle a little as in my years of gaming I seem to keep choosing unisex names where people refer to me as "dude". I was trying to reply to stormaura42 saying I think we're both in a similar place and I felt Loreli's fountain was a good use of tokens. I think for new players with a lower energy limit it still takes several beast events to gather enough gold tokens to buy what more established players already have.

I felt that only doing the golem was shorting me on sword tokens and that fangbeast were a good source for them, but too costly to trigger the spawn. Doing two of the daily monster hunts gives 10 sword tokens, and already require one golem, and just one boar. The boar is still points and doesn't take away points I wouldn't have used anyway if I'd spawned a golem. Considering I have little energy to expend I felt that spamming only golems and using the bronze coin conversion for the overflow wasn't as beneficial on its own as including two of the three daily monster hunts for the extra sword tokens.

I'm not sure why people have herds of horses for the event. I have 11 but always spawn a golem in one to three gathers. I'm thinking others have larger amounts of energy, allowing for more frequent spawning, thus the refresh on horse gather matters. If that's the case, I'm not that flush with energy yet. And new players won't be able to afford a large herd.

I'm still new and working out some of the logistics. I appreciate players sharing their experiences. :). And the mamoseas sound like a great strategy when I get to them. :o

Sorry to be off topic here but I have lost interest in this MH that I was enjoying up until a half hour ago. While collecting from my daily energy resources something mysteriously happens as it does frequently in this game and the next thing I knew I was speeding up a weekly Alicorn. Lost a huge amount of gems. I put in a support ticket and asked for a gem confirmation button because they know no one is going to willingly speed/spend that amount of gems. Usually I can avoid the gem traps or if it does happen it is a trivial amount that I let it go. So disappointed and disheartened right now.

Same thing happened to me. Speeded up a dragon in my case for absolutely no reason.
And had two boosts that did not work.
What on earths gone wrong with the game.

Totally agree that Lorelei's Fountain will be worth it! I was just fretting over my total Golden Troll Tokens ( 'hm where could I have gotten 10-15 more tokens from- oh yeah spent it.' ), and while i've earned about 8-9 from my Fountain so far that's not yet at the 15 I spent (after the quest reward). Not a problem at all, just musing over tallies and where they've gone.

I'm at 59 Golden Troll Tokens now, might reach 60 if I stay awake. 😴 ... (Edit: Update, did it- reached 60 then headed to sleep. [Edit2: Came back since I randomly woke up just before event ended and was able to earn a 61st Token! Hope everyone else is happy with their final Token counts. 😊❤️ ])

For those who enjoy LB observations:
My grouping is currently 1st and 2nd place holding ~10k and 9k points, about 1k fewer points for 3rd unless someone spends to catch up. Of the top 7 ranking players, all but 2 have their Iguana out on display! So, mostly players who ranked 1st or 2nd in the last Lizard MH event.
First place was already at 1,492 points within the first hour of the event, so it seemed competitive and spendy from the start.
I checked out of curiosity, since I had managed 2nd place in my first MH event (Lizard) without spending/trying and was curious to see how this round might play out.
(I'll finish below 6th place this time, I'm happy just to earn tokens! ❤️)

(Edit: Update! Checked LB with 40 min of event to go, someone from 4th place rocketed out to land in first place at 16,609 Points! Wow. Former 1st and 2nd place are still at 9,979 and 9,291 Points so I was wrong about the 9.9k person hitting 10k by the end (Edit2: They hit 10k! Number jumped up with 8 min to go. [All top 3 Places hit 10k with 3 min to go, I crafted my last Golden Token with 45 seconds left and then watched the 3rd place soar past to claim 2nd with 10,585 Points. Former 1st was at 10,142 and finished in 3rd place. They didn't catch the new 1st place who finished with 16,679 Points.] I was pushed down to 7th place from 6th by over 1,000 Points by the player now ahead of me (they'll get 5 more Trade Tickets for their effort, i'll finish the event with just above 3.7k points in 7th place after focusing on collecting Tokens). The 16k points player added around 12k points to their total in the last 2 hrs to take 1st place... [and then rankings did a final shuffle as players returned to check their standing before the event ended]. Final Top 4 scorers all had Iguanas out from previous MH, 6th-7th too and didn't check the rest. Wow! )



Hope everyone manages to earn their last few tokens or Gladys if they still need to!

Now I?m deciding between a 4th Armored Lion, or the first upgrade to my Wizard?s Portal. But I have plenty of time to decide; will wait for the next hunt to see what?s new first.

The boost is used to double the points you subsequently earn, not the points you already have.

I just wanted to add that the boost doubles the points you earn for only 1 hour after you activate the boost. It does NOT double all points you'll earn for the rest of the event, only for that limited time.

The Monster Hunter Guide has the summary under General Leaderboard Information (https://forums.storm8.com/showthread.php?95433-Castle-Story-Monster-Hunts-Gold-Troll-tokens-How-it-works/page2)- I haven't tried clicking the boost arrow from the main leaderboard ranking page to see if the text saying it's only for 1 hour shows up (if you access the boost through the other menu, I believe it does mention it doubles your points for 1 hr).

Wow, I can't believe I made it so far- everything in my MRC is now grayed out as I've made max of everything but armored manticores and purple dragons- Also have made all buildings and 2 fully upgraded wizard portals. I really hope they will add some GOOD prizes to MRC soon, since Buninjas were worst ever ( Only time ever I was sad there was not max 1, so I would not feel compelled to make more of those) - mine are glorified decos with option to accidentally spend gems on then - and they 90% time give me carrots which I'm maxed out on....

Nice! That’s great progress! I’ve skipped making most of the new animals as they weren’t as enticing as I had hoped. My plan was to go for my first wizard portal but upon seeing the requirements for the upgrades I decided to try for the armored direwolf but came up 10 gold tokens short. Oh well. Next time!

Good luck...I know it sounds weird- but I'm kind of sad - lately the new items have been more disappointing and now I feel like I have nothing to get excited over getting anymore. Like I do hope something good will come out soon, but feels weird to just make dragons...
