Step 6 seems very expensive, to get just 1500 coins and some xp.

Yes and No. It's about the locket that goes missing. Years later we see it's been found by Trader Jo'ul. Lots more info available in the Monster Hunt Hub guide (in post 7) and the Main Story Guide.

I think I will hold off doing step 6 until we know what Ruler's Locket is actually for!
